It. Is. Alive!

Gotta love the resurrection of zombie threads!

OK, I'll play - I've got three Paramounts: each from a different decade - 1966, 1972, 1989. The 1966 P-13 was raced, according to the previous owner and still sports the original non-standard paint. I'm not sure that is correct - it looks like a very high quality dealer repaint, or similar, from way back in the day. The frame is a 60cm. The 1972 came to me in pretty rough condition from another forum member. I repainted it myself and created new graphics along the way; it has very non-standard components. The frame is a 58cm. The 1989 is a Waterford built PDG model; it's also a 60cm.

I have a '92 PDG OS, from Japan. Repainted when i got it and I also re-painted it. I took most of the components from my 78 Schwinn World for it, but it has 105 headset, shifters, and calipers. And 600 tricolor hubs with Araya CTL 370 rims. Ultimately I'd like to complete the 105 group. I find it to be a magnificent ride; light and quick.

I know you likely had a great reason, but why did you take a modern frame and trick it out with parts and paint coloring from the 70's ?

It's a tad heavy for a high end bike, but both Robbie and I attribute that to the RX-100 and the Araya wheelset. It's a pretty bike and I'm sorry I don't have pics.
I brought it into the LBS last week to have the pedals removed (stem and seatpost were easily removed, but the pedals were locked in place, go figure). They fawned over it. Everything stopped while the employees and shop owner gave her the once over. BTW, the shop I went to is very C&V freindly. One of the mechanics didn't like the specaled paint from that era. But his comment was, "Hey, it's a Paramount, who cares about the small stuff". Well said.
Mind if I cut in?

I've had a 1992 PDG Paramount OS Series 2, OS Series 7, and now an '86 Paramount. I've mentioned in another thread that I found the lugwork on Waterford-built versions to be finer, along with better decals. The OS models were excellent rides, especially with modern wheels and lighter components. I doubt the OS 7 is that much less, handling-wise, than the '86, but I figure the SLX has to have an edge over the Tange OS.

The 7 was a favorite of mine for centuries, but I'm sure the folks in Waterford in '86 will have had their say, and fairly soon.

Here's my 1999 60th anniversary model:

An oddball P-65 from 1973, possibly a one-off (I can't find any others with a curved top tube.)

The components I already had. The color happens to be my favorite, for a bike, for a shirt, for whatever. My concern is never for "period correct", etc. My concern is for what I like to ride.
Edit : It also has a cyclone GT rd. It doesn't like index shifting, so I've had to re-learn friction for the rear. I like it.

It's my understanding that the PDG 3, 5, 7 were the same frame, outfitted with different components. correct me if I'm wrong.

The Series 7 and Series 5 were made by National/Panasonic in Japan; the Series 3 and Series 2 were made initially by A-Pro (Taiwan) and production was later moved to mainland China.

Robbie, I love the '86 Waterford, and the 7700 group is perfect on that frame IMHO.

All chrome was a standard color until 74-75 or so. They were also available built to order, so I guess anything might be possible.

I took a family portrait a few montha ago. In the foreground is a 1940 Wastyn built track bike from the first generation "early years." Next is a 1972 chrome P15-9 from the second generation "classic period", and finally is a 1987 Standard from the third generation "Waterford period."

Sounds good to me! (not like u needed my approval or anything) - just curious

i like the friction option on my older bikes-- the early index shifters, now with 20 years of wear and tear, get a little wonky, and friction is just easier sometimes

Was the P15-9 the one I knocked over, or was that the 953 frame that you made yourself?

You knocked over the 953 Waterford, Robbie. I could build a frame a week until I die and never get half as good at brazing a frame as Dave Wages did on that Waterford.

What the heck; it's the spritual descendent of Paramounts.

Thanks. I feel very fortunate to have it.

More of Dave's craftsmanship can be seen on his website HERE.

I might also add that I live in a desert wasteland as far as used bikes and components are concerned. If i don't have it personally, I have to bring it in from outside.

I am with you. Wanted a Paramount since I was a wee boy, finally got one at 46 a 1978 P-15 and I could not be happier. Now if I could just find an 82 Elite...I could die an happy man.
