Bikes: 1 trek, serotta, rih, de Reus, Pogliaghi and finally a Zieleman! and got a DeRosa

I've been thinking on this and I suggest you contact Tina from Tommasini (Ride Tommasini userid?)
I bet she could help run down a replacement fork.

I had a "moment" on my ride today (but not with the same result) that I realized just after I had lost my concentration for an instant. Near the last leg of my ride home cruising along I almost ran a red light w/ crossing car traffic. Fortunately I was going slow enough, and I was on a quiet one way street, to do a radical u-turn instead of getting hit. It really woke me up.

My sympathy, I had a head-on bike to bike four years ago. Our heads collided and them I hit the ground. I was wearing a helmet, he was not. I ended up with a broken shoulder, the other guy a broken nose, I think. He crossed over and hit me, said I was crossing to his side so he tried to miss me. To this day I don't know why he did that.

sorry to hear about the crash robatsu. Hopefully the bike isn't as bad as you fear and that you're able to get it back on the road in time. Heal up, and we'll try not to crack too many jokes as I've heard that laughing is one of the more painful things when you've broken ribs.

Feeling noticeably better every day, thanks! My accident now got reported in the local media and is causing a bit of a dustup in the comments sections between cyclists, motorists, path users, etc.

Bikes: Was Fuji and got my grails (Pro, Pro SR, Design Series, & Ti). Now I hunt 50's/60's road bikes.

Sorry to hear about the accident. Perhaps you need to make an offering to the Fuji gods for dismissing them for something Italian. I think that you have angered them.

Now that you are feeling better, I suppose that I can joke guilt free.

+1 ! I'm sure at the time, PR was the last thing on your mind, so well done Robatsu. Hope your bike can be salvaged and you can still make the journey to Japan on time. Best wishes from the UK, where we don't have that many cycle trails away from the roads.

So.... which are you - a Wealthy Fat Slob, or Successor to Lance Armstrong?

Those comments are precious.

They sure are. Some of the comments don't even apply to the story, just rehashed garbage. I guess no one cares that two people were seriously hurt.

Heal up Robatsu, I hope luck turns around for you.

You know, I'm thinking you may be onto something there. But I still have my 1981 Fuji America, which is the distillation of all my Fuji/Suntour coolness around here.

At the moment, I can't ride anything - I think I could do it with the ribs, but the broken collarbone is a dealbreaker at the moment.

I certainly wasn't looking for any sympathy out of that article, I don't really need any, I'm ok, although the other guy is still a question mark.

That being said, the tenor of the commentary on the article was darkly disturbing to me, the amount of hate and anger. To be truthful, commenters are self-selecting and bad content often drives out good, so you start getting on a conflict/hate ridden roll, it tends to keep on that path and repel others. But still....

Yeah, the comment section of our local paper is pretty bad no matter what the article was about. They don't allow comments for articles involving a death, for good reason.

Got in touch with Tommasini, sent some pics of the bike I was riding in my accident. Pretty bad, fork is lunched, bubbling on bottom of top and downtube. Tommasini thought head tube might be ovalized as well. They said they didn't think it was worth trying to fix the frame.

Rats, because I was really loving the Diamante.

The other guy that was in the hospital was still in the ICU a day or two ago (my last update) in serious condition, which was pretty disturbing news.

How bad is the bubbling? If it isn't heat treated, and if the headtube is not ovalized, I'd be more than glad to see if my Park HTS-1 might be able to do something for it (if you don't mind the shipping costs to and from).

Very sad, a frame can be replaced or repaired ... the other cyclist ..... prayers are in order for a full recovery.

My feelings exactly. Locally, this story got some traction, especially when a local drive time radio jock used it as evidence of how insane aggressive cyclists are terrorizing DC roads and bike paths. Pretty unbelievable, since according to both my recollection and police statements, aggressive speeding cycling had nothing to do with it. Simply a case of the other cyclist picking the absolute worst moment, most likely just a momentary lapse, to pull out into the oncoming lane to pass some pedestrians.

It has not been a good week.

Thanks for the offer. I don't know what I'm going to do though. I'm leaving for Japan on Thursday for 6 weeks, I won't be doing anything at least until returning.

I'm not looking forward to a trans-pacific flight with a bunch of broken ribs, broken collarbone, and overall being pretty beaten up. But I am looking forward to being reunited with my family. I am feeling better every day, but there is still a long way to go. They've got me on horse motrin and codeine, although I've been laying off the codeine the past day or two. For the life of me, I don't see how anyone could ever get addicted to or abuse that stuff. Yeah, it cuts the pain, but I get all sorts of extremely unpleasant side effects.

Sorry to hear about the crash, I hope you and the other rider are back in the saddle soon. Tell your family in Japan to go easy on the hugs!
