Is this guy dreaming or is it actually that rare? Cinelli Content

So I was just on my local CL and stumbled accross this post. I don't know much about Cinellis but I cannot fathom how any frameset could possible cost this much if it's not diamond encrusted or plated in 24 carrat gold...

https://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/tor/bik/1833801042.html
Cinelli RVCA Barry McGee frame

54 cm
Super Corsa Pista

There are only 4 of these frames in this size (not built up) in the world.
• Campagnolo NOS vintage track headset
• Campagnolo NOS vintage aero seat post
• TA Specialties bottom bracket

Includes limited edition “Pressure” exhibit program and RVCA Cinelli Barry McGee t-shirt (sz L)

$3500.

Bikes: '39 Hobbs, '58 Marastoni, '73 Italian custom, '75 Wizard, '76 Wilier, '78 Tom Kellogg, '79 Colnago Super, '79 Sachs, '81 Masi Prestige, '82 Cuevas, '83 Picchio Special, '84 Murray-Serotta, '85 Trek 170, '89 Bianchi, '90 Bill Holland, '94 Grandis

It's maybe not that rare, but it's rare - I think 25 pieces, and who knows how many of those have been built at this point. Plenty of framesets cost that much, and some of them are even steel. All depends on whether this sort of thing floats your particular boat (not me), though I'm guessing that price is a reach.

Bikes: Colnagos (2005 Brera Art, 2007 President LdV, 2007 CF6)

From a 2008 article, "25 complete bikes and 25 frame-only kits with pricetags of $3,700.00 and $2,100.00 respectively..." One of the 25 complete bikes is currently on eBay for about $5600.

Bikes: Two wheeled ones

I think his asking price might be optomistic, especially in the current market, but I'll bet it would sell for $2,000 + on ebay. The complete bike above has an asking price of $5,700...that doesn't mean it's worth that or will sell for that. There's a guy who has been selling a Dura Ace 7400 group for $2,400 for a year now.

It is a limited edition "collab" between Cinelli, RVCA and Barry McGee. The "value added" is the artists contribution. As a bike kind of overpriced imo but as a art piece that is in the eye of the beholder.

Wow that's really cool. I probably should have done a little more research myself sooner but that's pretty cool to hear how very rare it is. I guess ebay wise if he caught someone on the right day it could very well be worth what he's asking, I just find it surprising that he's trying to sell it via CL. If that was my frame I wouldn't be taking pictures of it by laying it out in the middle of the road haha, perhaps on an air mattress haha. I can just imagine a garbage truck pulling around the corner hahaha and whamo! the frame is toast haha

Well, that's who the seller said painted it. Then again, he also told me Da Vinci put it together. So who knows.

If it doesn't have the Vitruvian Man stamped into the fork crown, it's probably not a genuine Da Vinci frame. Sorry to break it to you.

Picchio, I'm confused as well. Are you saying Gridplan is a hipster because he could reference the article about the number of Cinelli framesets? Because he owns a a Gloria that was painted by Caravaggio? From personal experience? I really respect your bicycle knowledge, but you threw me with the hipster comment.

Bikes: 1986 Alan Record Carbonio, 1985 Vitus Plus Carbone 7, 1984 Peugeot PSV, 1972 Line Seeker, 1986(est.) Medici Aerodynamic (Project), 1985(est.) Peugeot PY10FC

Through extensive research, I found out that...........My Peugeot model 1984 PSV's frame was hand brazed together as part of a daily batch of 150 PSV frames in France on December 14, 1983 by Monsieur Jaques Tourbillion Cailletroufe! A long time Peugeot master brazier, union worker and artisan that left the Peugeot bicycle factories at the end of each day with blinding migraines, bleeding and burned fingers as he put his heart stregnth and mind deeply into his work for the pride of the French bicycle industry. He died in his sleep of a broken heart when Spidel announced they were closing operations and Peugeot was closing their big sales oeprations in the US a couple of years afterwards........
Norweigian classic bicycle frame appraiser, former Kilo record holder and alternate to a famous Olympic champion, Dangor "Blitz" Kalstad, puts the price of my PSV frame at the ultra impressive $195.00 mark on a good day! Yehay!!!!! Huzzah!!!

Yeah, you jest, but I'd be all over that thing at that price if it were in my size.

I was goofin' on him. I've been known to do that. I'm pretty sure he's OK wit' it. (Caravaggio was a Renaissance painter.)

Ah, okay. Guess I need to brush up on my Renaissance painters!
