i know this was discussed somewhere here recently (as that's what clued me in to it), but i can't find the thread...
anyway, 1986 laser, full c-record, gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. the question was, "how much do you think it will sell for?"
the answer is $16.6k. dang!

Hey Carleton,
What would in your opinion would've been a fair price for it (the Cinelli Laser) anyway, assuming it is in mint condition?

It's safe to say that that bike will NEVER be ridden. It's gonna sit in some dude's garage or living room. Seriously, where is anyone gonna ride that thing? Even Sunday rides will be a kick in the nuts riding that.
Unless it had some historic value (the bike that so-and-so won the Olympic or World Championship time trial on) or the Keith Haring art piece, no museum will buy it. And even if they would, they wouldn't pay $16K for it. They wouldn't get their money back.
It's just an old bike that was (arguably) state of the art years ago.
It's just dumb.

$2K tops...to a collector or museum.

I agree with Carleton. 16k is absurd for that bike. Sure its amazing and was great for its time, but even the seller himself recommends against riding it and instead placing it as a decoration piece. I'd rather put 1/4 of the price of that bike into an incredibly functional, top of the line, quality ride.

EDIT:
But if they put it in a museum and charge admission to view a piece of history and make their money back over time...not so dumb.

I always thought the way the hooded brake levers were just thrown on the end of those handlebars looked janky. So much care was taken to make everything else look integrated and smooth, and the brake levers look like a last-second hack.

. . . 16K for that Bondo baby with crazed failing paint is a tad over my limit.

That's how pursuit/TT/aero bars were equipped up into the 90s
