Considering the bike is about 20 years old, it seems to be in great shape. This is my first road bike.

I'm going to take to take it out for a ~15 mile ride after work tomorrow.

Again, thanks for all the responses. I hope to get a lot of use out of this thing.
We hope you do too. The usual phrase around here is "ride it like you stole it"

One thing you'll want to do is check out all the mechanicals and consumables:

- Brake pads
- Tires
- Cables/housings

You'll also want to check on the lubrications situation...bottom bracket, headset, and the rest of the pivot points.

Where are you located? Lots of folks here like to help with someone's first C&V bike.

It is kind of unusual for a buyer and seller to meet up at bikeforums.net by chance.

I am curious. Did you discuss this site either before or after the purchase? And because you were reading each others posts did it hurt the negotiating.

it was coincidence. i had googled "bike forum" a few days ago and found this place. it looked like a good resource.

i just wanted to make sure that this was a decent bike.

starbiker was straightforward, i believe he told me all he knew of the bike, and knew what he wanted.

I'm in Baltimore. I took the bike out for a ~20 mile ride today and everything felt great--especially in comparison to my old mountain bike. I'm really happy with what I have so far. Everything feels pretty effortless by comparison.

I did have a guy at the local bike shop take a quick look at the wheels and he seemed to think they were in okay shape.

I agree, that stuff should be checked out, though.
