My Pinarello grail... found!

I've been on the hunt for my grail bike now for nearly a year. I have seen many, many bikes while searching but only a handful have been worthy enough to make my heart flutter. A week ago, I found a Pinarello Treviso that has done just that.

Here are the details:

- Late 80's vintage Pinarello Treviso. Even with the serial number, the research done here cannot nail down an accurate year. The best the seller could do was “late 80’s, possibly early 90’s”.
- Absolutely pristine bike that has had meticulous care and maintenance. It has never been crashed or otherwise abused.
- The bike has been completely stripped and repainted to Pinarello factory specs by Dave Wilburn of Southern California. Dave also applied an original factory decal kit and then covered everything with a final clear coat. The paint is perfect, the chrome has no rust or blemishes whatsoever and the decals are flawless. The attention to detail is phenomenal, and in my opinion, this bike is nothing short of a work of art.
- Full Campagnolo Centaur Gruppo with exception of the headset (Chris King). Possibly worthy of a Campagnolo Record upgrade in the future.
- Wheels are Campy Nucleon Clinchers.
- Gorgeous, high res, professional looking photos are located here. These are posted by the seller (now his hobby as his riding days seem to be behind him).

Lastly, the seller is really fantastic to work with and I get a great vibe from him as he has all details, documents/receipts and points of contact from his build up. This just helps make the deal feel right, as it is a hefty purchase.

Anyhow, this post is half informative for the group, as I’m thrilled beyond words to have this bike, and half thanking everyone who has taken time to help me, in some way or another, as I’ve gone through the agony and ecstasy of locating a vintage Italian legend worthy of preservation yet something that I’m not afraid to use for what it was intended to do, which, of course, is to RIDE!!

FYI, The mid '80s Trevisos had the same chroming pattern, ditto for the Pinarello Record framesets according to the 1985 catalog. The Pinarello signature on the top tube didn't arrive until 1986/7 or so. By then, Pinarello was chroming the upper-end frames a bit differenly.

All would have had the model name on the TT as well. This is either a mid-'80s Treviso with the wrong decal kit, or another, later model with an incorrect paint job.

Haha, I hear ya, PDX. I sorta like how it's not the Record group as it's nice to be just a little unique, ya know?
As for a ride, that could be a good possibility now that I've got something that will get me there!

Kurt - did the mid 80s Trevisos have both chainstays chromed? The Trevisos in the 1985 catalog only have right chainstay chromed. The OP's bike looks like the 1985 Record with wrong decal kit.

Regardless of the model, that is one sweet bike!!! Enjoy it!

Hmmm, really?! Any chance you have a link for the 1985 Pinerello catalog?

Thanks, Force/Cudak!
Is the Record considered above the Treviso in the Pinerello hierarchy? It's a bit hard to tell from the catalog.

I understand the Record to be above the Treviso in the hierarchy.

Bikes: Was Fuji and got my grails (Pro, Pro SR, Design Series, & Ti). Now I hunt 50's/60's road bikes.

For convenience, OP's pictures:

Beautiful bike. I have a set of Neutrons, the newer version of Nucleons, and Centaur 10 on one of my bikes. I don't think you'd gain much performance-wise with Record, you would shave a few grams of weight and a few hundred dollars off your bank account.

Thanks, Guys!
It took me nearly all evening to get her home and set up for a quick ride (removing my clipless, putting them on the Pinarello, etc.) but by 10'ish, I was zipping effortlessly up hills with a huge grin on my face as the wheels spun almost completely silently. I can't get over how amazing the ride quality is and how well the components are in sync with the bike. I still have some tweaking to do for 100% proper fit, but, I'm certainly getting dialed in!
KonAaron, thanks again for all your help. I really appreciate it! If ever you need a facilitation of a bike in Portland, just let me know!
