Le Tour date?
I'm trying to find some info on a older Schwinn Le Tour that my son picked up at the Habitat Re-Store. The head badge says Japan. The serial number on the left dropout is H4239147. Any help identifying this fifteen dollar find is appreciated.

Look at the headbadge on the front of the bicycle. There should be a 4 digit number stamped into it. It can sometimes be difficult to see, but it should be there. The format is XXXY, where XXX is the day of the year, and Y is the year. For example, 1679 would be the 167th day of either 1979 or 1989. The decade should be pretty clear just from looking at the bicycle and its graphics. Can you post a picture?

Look closely on the badge for a four digit code. The first three numbers are the day of mfgr. The last number is the year.
EG: 2642 would indicate a bike made on the 264th day of 1982.

Based on the serial number, I'm guessing it's a 1974 (August), although it could be a 1984.
From Schwinn Bulletin 23, "Schwinn Bicycle Identification Numbers":
Bicycles from Japan have a production month letter in either the first or second position and a production year number in the other (first or second) position. Examples J677123 = September, 1976, 6J77123 = September, 1976.
Are the graphics like this?
