Heh - a 42/26 is no way to go up Tioga or Sonora Pass. It would be brutal.

Can the gearing be changed for something more hill worthy? I live in a hilly area so that would be a good thing.

Sure, but ride it around as-is and see what's what before you go changing anything. I was speaking more to your plans for crossing the country with those gears. While I'm sure many folks can, it is not something I'd be looking forward to.

Mmmmm, right... I didn't see the 13/26, but that would be easy to swap out.

I see a lot of rust on the bottom headset cup, the adjustable BB cup, and the front hub. The tires don't look so hot either - especially the rear. I can see sidewall chord showing. The brake cables coming out of the aero levers are slouched and poorly routed outside of the (what appear to be) disintegrating foam bar covers.

I'd recommend a tear-down and overhaul on that bike, before you put serious miles on it.

Actually, that's dirt, not rust. I'll tell the shop what you said about the other things and get it all fixed up. Thanks!
