I do ride the bike and will be putting about 100 miles on it a week. I don't really care for accuracy I just want to find something that works well. As you mentioned in your post, these have hardened already. Can you recommend any? Thanks.Originally Posted by Chombi
If the bike will be for riding regularly, I wouldn't bother trying to find and pay through the nose for period correct Diacompe AGC brake pads (The top model C&V Diacompe stuff had gotten quite expensive through the years) as there are lots of modern replacements that will surely perform better. Anyway, it's most likely that what NOS pads you might find out there from that time will be all age hardened by now. Not sure, but those pads could already be modern rpalcements too.Chombi

The saddle was made by Selle Italia, and I believe the company has resumed (if it ever stopped) making the "turbo" model. IIRC, the "turbo" model was replaced by the "flite" series in the early 90's........
I think Selle Italia produced the basic Trubo saddle maybe in the early nineties but during it's later production run and after they quit making the plain Turbo saddle, they came out with all sorts of variants based on it with differing gel padding rail support "shock systems", lycra covering (Turbo Hinault, Turbo SLG, Turbo Special, Turbo Matic, Turbo Gel....etc...) and even the most unusual "Forced Ventilation" model that had holes on the plastic base that goes through the badding and out on the saddle covering. A couple of these were on sale at ebay, NOS. Thought of buying one, but just couldn't make up my mind if having one on my 80's bikes would be "cool"......Originally Posted by canyoneagle

Selle Italia did resume making the Turbo saddle about a year and a half ago with Lorica (synthetic leather) and lycra(?) covers. They go for pretty cheap at 70 bucks typically at eBay. Unfortuantely, it did pull down the value of "real" NOS Turbos, that were going for well over $100 just about a year ago.

Check out "Kool Stop" brake pads and holders. They have been supplying cyclists with good performing, dependable replacement brake pads forever. They must have a model that will fit the Diacompes nicely. And I don't think they only come in that garish salmon color only like they used to.Originally Posted by elguicho

BTW, I agree with the recommendation on wraping your bars with white padded tape. It will match your white turbo very nicely and will be "period correct". Lots of choices for tapes but I prefer Cinelli "cork" tape on my 80's bikes....in white, of course.
