Zefal HPX questions.
I'm looking to buy a pump that would fit on my frame and I don't have a lot of experience shopping for one. This is the pump I'm looking at:
and this is the dimple my bike has:
I think the pump goes along the top tube. I have measured the distance between the head tube and the the seat tube and it is 52 cm. From what I have found online the HPX 4 should fit. However, how does it stay in place securely with just one dimple? is the spring in the pump strong enough?
I know that originally the bike would have been fitted with a Silca pump but I can't seem to find a big enough one. And from what I have read, they are not the best. I'm not looking for period correct, just efficiency and fit with the frame.
Thanks for the help.

looks like it would work fine. the pump has a strong spring that keeps it in place. you can fasten velcro around it if it makes you feel better.
hpx 4 is the largest one i believe. you might want to re-check everything to make sure that one fits your bike. i have the hpx4 and it works great with my 58cm TT (center to center).

Sizes listed. #4 sounds big to me.
The business end with the 'wings' will go under your seat lug; the handle of the pump has a depression in it that will engage your braze-on.

It's actually a 57cm. According to the link, #3 is 20.5 inches (52.07 cm) uncompressed. The distance between the head and seat tubes is 53cm. I'm thinking #3 might be too short.

Measure the distance between the pump peg and the face of the seat tube..
I have added a couple velcro straps to keep from relying on just the spring
mine a plastic Silca frame fit. touring bike has a Blackburn same kind of spring frame fit .
Zefals are fine .. mind the dents in the pump tube..

...are they still making those? I'm still using a late-80s-vintage hp-x4 on my P8 (60cm frame); runs right up the seat tube of the frame...always liked those Zéfal pumps; first one I had was an early-70s red/silver/blue 'Competition' model with the 'umbrella' cap to hold it to the frame...

I prefer the smaller bottle mount bracket pumps. but can see that a classy longer pump is nice to accentuate the antique or classic bikes of an era when the shorty water bottle mount or even today's CO2 pumps weren't yet into existence. Matching era is nostalgic.

I recently bought a Zefal for my Fuji (smokin' deal at Nashbar). I ran it along the seat tube, where there is less chance of it dropping. I also have mini pump brackets under the water bottle cages on my bikes. Nice to have options.

I have three seventies Zefal HPs (not HPX). Two of them I got NOS for $18 each a couple of years ago and the other one I bought in the late seventies. All of them work great.
I have Zefal Lapize pumps on my Carlton and PA10 because they resemble the originals. I got them from xxcycle.com, but they're no longer available. They were only $3.15 each! I've never tried to pump a tire with them. They're just for looks and they seem very delicate. Grip one too hard and you'll dent it. They were sold in various lengths to fit your frame. You just had to pick one that fits when it's slightly less than fully compressed.

I received my pump today. Here is a not very good picture of it on the frame. I like it but I wish the feet on the one end were a little more like rubber and less like plastic.
And for the sake of information:
Zefal HPX 4: 23 in. (58.42 cm) uncompressed, 20.13 in. (51.13 cm.) fully compressed.

Park makes an adjustable full size frame pump. It's got a bit smaller body, so it takes a bit more pumping, but I like that I can swap it between different bikes.
