Name That Crank......
This is but one example of some of 'vintage' items to be found among the plethora of classic and not so classic components to be found in the old garage out behind my childhood home in Town of Crawford NY. We were cleaning up after my father's death on 9/3; he was an avid cyclist well into his seventies, until heart surgery, and ultimately cancer brought the 'cranks' to a final rest.
My visit was brief, but there will ultimately be more treasures uncovered as my brother and sisters continue to clean out the estate....... I did bring back to Maine, his 1980's LL Bean Classic (Cannondale) road bike to rebuild.
Used it's pedals on my road bike for the Dempsey Challenge 1/2 century charity ride last weekend.

That actually looks like a 2-piece Pierce crankset. Do you have photos of the rest of the frame or parts? Don't toss that one on the scrap heap yet!
I can't find a decent size pic but it would be something like this:

Wow! Ragooch, Very good, you know your cranks
Yes it is a Pierce, and no, it's not destined for the scrap heap.
Something strange about that front fork though, appears to be backwords hmmmm
As you can see from the attached, we've lots of great things down on the old homestead. There's also a shaft-drive Pierce frame somewhere, but I couldn't find it with the time I had available
Enjoy.....

So sorry for your loss. I know it's a bear to go through some of the stuff. Cool bike though, and that shaft drive sounds promising!
There's good riding in the area if you get a chance though. I'm not familiar with the immediate area around Crawford, but anywhere around Minnewaska/Ellenville/Gardiner is a solid bet this time of year. The leaves are starting to turn nicely

Oh, I did not know it was a quiz, thought you were trying to i.d. it.
That's a Pierce Racer. Model 110 or 120 depending on the size. It was the road/track model, not the all out track racer which was the Kramer Special. Please PM me if you end up wanting to sell the headbadge as I could really use it.

YoKev, I grew up & graduated from Pine Bush HS in 71'. Spent my adolescence & teen years riding, hiking all over the 'Gunks' until I left NY in 73'. 'Town of Crawford' is the formal name for the area I lived in Ulster County, only about 14 miles from Newpaltz. My dad, my son & I (all 'Norms') rode the trails at Minnewaska back in the 80's. My dad celebrated his 65th birthday by doing the Gunk Loop, Rt 52 up over the mountain to Ellenville, then up the valley to Rt 44/55 and up over the mountain again through Minnewaska, down around the horseshoe turn back to the valley and home. Approx 37/40 miles with over 4000' total of climbing.... I did it at age 37 and thought I would die on those twin 6+ mile climbs over the mountain between the two valleys!

I remember how hard it was for me to go through my father's old huning and shooting gear after he died. My condolences, man, that's a lot of memories all jumbled in the old homestead, huh?
But I don't remember the difficulty of dealing with the tragedy when I use his old stuff. I just remember the Old Man, probably about like he'd have wanted to be remembered. Keep the circle turning.
