Outbid again on CL - $35 Schwinn Voyageur

https://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/bik/2029056030.html

This one is up for auction on CL - Bidding started at $35 (my best offer) but then she told me that someone else had called and offered "substantially more".

You can bid too - if you're so inclined, because he isn't coming to get it till Friday.

I thought of offering $2500, but instead I told her it wasn't offering any more than $35 and thanked her very much.

I'm anti bidding on CL. I love the $25 Voyageur 11.8 I got on CL this spring....cool gearing and generally nice bike but nothin' fancy. I wouldn't have gone over $35 either, but I would guess there are many folks who would have thought $135 was a good price.

Well it was fun while it lasted - she probably has a list of quite a few interested parties after four and a half hours at $35.

Hey - I wonder if they'll all show up at the same time this Friday?

I think it's deplorable too - Sometimes the seller is just playing to get a lot of interest ( as this one has aparently done) - and sometimes they are innocently posting what it was worth to them (to be rid of it) - but succumb to temptation when someone comes along and offers an extra 50 or $100, despite a commitment they made to the first buyer .

Auchen, I was wondering if you were going to hop on that one. Glad I wasn't interested.

Still in MI for a few more days. FWIW, I bought mine for $35 a few years ago, converted it to 10 speed w/cross tires.

I tried the 1st version of Chrome, but I just stayed with FF. FF has some cool add-ons that I like, and they do keep improving. Sometimes that open source tack pays back.

- Oops - Am i veering off topic?

So a few more days, and I'll have all the smokin' hot deals to myself ?

Actually I still have about 10 bikes that I failed to unload the end of the season, so it would have to be a super smokin' hot deal to tempt me now. (I was even a little ambivalent about the Voyager when it was $35.)

Any CL postings I see that are strictly 'make offer' I flag as a violation of CL policy. It is not an auction site.

It wasn't make offer, it was $35. The seller found out it was worth more, and was accepting offers.

That bike would easily get $150-$200.00. Just not sure why you are complaining about this again. You wanted it at $35.00 so you could flip it and make a nice profit from it, but are now pissed that it went for more. It's CL what did you expect? How would you think the seller would feel when the bike is re-listed on craig's for $200.00?

Actually it's more like a $300-400 bike once completely cleaned and overhauled. (I'm not "p___d" about it though.)

Guess I missed it. But I didn't know the Voyageur sold new for $1000 in 1984. Did it?
