Help with Merckx frame sizing?

I've been searching quite a bit and haven't been able to find anything. Just looking for a page with any info on frame measurements of steel frame Merckx bikes. I was spying a few on ebay and thought I should get a better idea of what will and won't work. I'm primarily concerned with standover height.

Is it that hard to find or is it that stupid of a question?

I think you will find that standover height is one of the more useless measurements on a good frame. Most folk are interested in the top tube length.

I couldn't tell you the standover on any bike I own.

standover is over-rated.
reach is what I look at first, then seatube length, as well as frame angles.

Well, yes and no I guess.

My current steel frame is 60 cm with a 57.5 cm top tube. I was looking at a 63 cm frame with a 58.5 top tube.

On the current bike, reach is good, but ever so slightly long and a little low. I can't really ride in the drops comfortably. I was thinking the larger seat tube would help, but then again, I'd like to not rack myself mounting and dismounting the thing. That's why I was trying to get a hold of some standover height info.

Here's what I was able to find:

https://www.gitabike.com/cgi-bin/shop...Uao&0_option=1

This is pretty much their standard steel geo.

FWIW, the info that Merckx provides about their frames is minimal compared to other companies. Their seat tube measurement is center to center (add 1.5cm for center to top). To get an idea of the standover on a 63cm Merckx, just take the standover number for your current 60cm bike, and add either 3cm (if you're measuring center to center) or 4.5cm (if you're measuring center to top). Standover on the Merckx may well be a little less than that, thanks to the slack seat angle and low bb, but not by a significant amount.

Oh, and if you are indeed "big and fat" as your sig says, you might prefer a Merckx MX Leader (made of Columbus Max tubing) as it's a good bit stiffer than the round-tubed bikes (Corsa, Corsa Extra, Century, Professional, Strada).

Part of the problem is that not all steel Merckx's are the same geometries/measurements. Merckx also made custom bikes for folks (even common folks) so that throws things off.

I'm not that fat, really. 221 at the moment with a goal of 175. I just call myself that for encouragement.

Yeah, the guy selling the bike probably measured the seat tube height from center of BB to top of seat tube. A roughly 58.5 cm top tube would put it in the 60-61 cm frame size I guess. But that does give me a better idea. I guess standover height would not be that significantly different.

Merckx's own Molteni DeRosas measured 58.5 (center-to-center) at the seat tube and fairly short (even for the mid-70s) 57 at the top tube. Hey, that's my size! About a year ago a frame that his shop had made for his son Axel was up on eBay. It measured something like 63 seat tube x 56.5 top tube. I don't think Axel buys his suits off the rack.

Nowadays, most bikes of that nominal size have longer top tubes.
