Miyata 610?
I've been offered a Miyata 610 per a craigslist want ad- not sure on the details yet but I want to see what you guys think.
I was looking for a simple, mid-end bike for randonneuring-style riding (ie unsupported long rides on varying terrain). Not mountain bike stuff by any means but occasional trails and rough roads, that kind of thing.
My only requirements are 27" or 700c wheels, a rear rack and a light (the latter of which I can add)- it needs to be kept clean and simple so it's easy to lock up and not receptive to theft.
Thoughts? And what's a reasonable price for one in good condition?

Should probably be moved to the appraisals forum...
However the 610 is a great bike for what you want (light touring) but is definitely a desirable bike and "receptive to theft".
I won't give a price, as it depends greatly on condition and year but do some searching here or check ebay for completed listings.
EDIT: I'll add - If it is offered at a good price but doesn't fit or isn't what you're looking for you might consider grabbing it anyway and selling it to fund the right bike for you. As I mentioned it is desirable, as are all steel touring bikes, and will likely fetch a decent price. (Warning, buying-rehabbing-selling might become addictive so be careful)

Wow, that's pretty hard to say without photos; but Miyatas in general are quality bikes, and most serious people know it. Vintage 80's Miyata 1000's in good shape will sale big in good shape, 600-1000. The 610 is the little sister of the 1000, a sportier randonneur version which is as desirable to the sportier old people who still value these bikes.(Such as myself) Most 80's Miyatas in good shape on the 'Left' coast would fetch 200-300; however, the 1000 & 610 are hot. I'd say, if it's in your size and in clean ride-able shape, if it sells for less than 300, I'd be very surprised. Especially in Houston.

I just sold this lovely Miyata 210 Mixte for $350.00 completely rebuilt. I sold a few Miyata 1000 Touring bicycles for over $600.00 each. And I sold a Miyata 710 for $300.00 a few year ago.
Miyata bicycles are well made and finished. Even the 210 I just finished building is a really nice bicycle. My wife even commented on how nice it looks, however, she has no interest in riding anything:-(
Hope this is a help.
