1980 Mclean repaint

My green '80 Mclean

had developed rust at the top tube cable braze-ons, and worse, under the paint along the underside of the top tube. I believe it was caused from use on the trainer by the previous owner. She had also had it repainted shortly after she acquired it. Anyway, I sent the frame off to Franklin Frames in Ohio, and just received it back today:

I think it looks great and look forward to rebuilding it back up. I will probably leave the fenders off this time though. I will post progress pics as I build it back, but I'm not in a hurry so it may take a few weeks for completion.

I gather you're happy with the paint work? Jack has a TS Issac frame that he's refinishing for me as we speak. Hope to get it back before Thanksgiving.

Please give a few details of your impression of the paint refinishing.

Thanks.

For the price, it's great work. It looks brand new and essentially perfect. I didn't see the need to go with a high end painter (Joe Bell, Cycleart) for a one color/clearcoat job. Plus Franklin Frames has a solid reputation from what I've learned about them. I would go with them again if I had the need, which I hope I don't for a long time!
Would you-all recommend I re-face the BB and HT before building?

Shucks that's a great paint job! What paint did you use? Did the metal flaking come in it?

I got to see it up close tonight. As good as it looks in the pics, it's actually better looking in person. That's how good that paint job looks.

It's called metallic paint. Look around, you'll see it on most cars.

as long as it looked ok before paint there's no need to reface it, Just take a sharp straight razor and remove the paint on the faces of the BB shell.

I know these guys are professional and all, but it looks an awful lot like they sprayed paint in the BB threads and Derailleur Hanger threading. You may want to chase those threads before you install a BB.

Must of been faint paint mist that got in there - I installed and removed both cups and a der. bolt no problem. I haven't checked the fender/rack eyelets yet, but I can deal with them after I build it up.

Well I was going to post pics as I built it back up, but I got carried away with the tools and finished it last night.
First ride this morning, ~10 miles to work, kinda risky without even a test-ride first. But it rode great, just like before!

A great looking paint job. Nice metallic blue too!
