May not be "right on the money", but the 2011 Raleigh Port Townsend looks pretty nice. It has a butted chrome moly frame and chrome moly forks, fenders, front rack and a great "retro" look.

I think the best deal with new touring models is the bruce gordon BLT: https://www.bgcycles.com/blt.html

Bikes: 19 road bikes & 1 Track bike

Chainstay length should not be an issue. Long stays were always common on most Touring bikes for many years and makes perfect sense - you don't want your heels to be continually kicking against full sized panniers or need to mount the bags too far aft on a rack. Perhaps the fishtailing issue on the Trek bikes was due to selection of too light weight tubing for use on a Touring bike - where you could expect a heavy load on the rear (the frameset was all Reynolds butted 531 tubing, I believe).

The broken stays on Surly Long Haul Truckers is inexcusable. Perhaps a design flaw or maybe just sloppy brazing? Surly may have resolved the issue now since it was apparently not an isolated incident. The frame I saw was replaced under warranty - the bike was nearly new - but what a disaster to have encountered when the owner was out touring along a country road when suddenly: SNAP!

I would also give a serious consideration to the various thorn framesets: https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/thorn-sho...cat=425&page=1

Or the Bob Jackson World Tour: https://www.bobjacksoncycles.co.uk/pr...products_id=43

My '85 Lotus Odyssey has nearlyt all you describe. The dropouts are not purely vertical, but are the really short semi-vertical ones and getting the wheel out with tight fenders is easy. It came with 27's, but I found that 700C actually fit better, and the original Dia Compe canti's reach just fine.

How about Novara? I flipped this one a few years back (too small). I think it was a late 80's model. It had 27" wheels, but the there enough adjustment in the cantilevers to work with 700c. Matches your need with the exception of dual eyelets. Overall, a very nice bike and I think you could get on the cheap, since the brand recognition isn't there.

Beautiful bike, nearly identical to what I'm trying to achieve with my Raleigh Kodiak. What size tires are you running in this pic, I'm running 700 x 35 marathon supremes now and there's no room for fenders. Well done!

i saw that it was either or, however my lotus with canti's came with 27's. I'm running 700's and they line up fine.
