My first time over the bars! (with photo of offending obstruction)
Approaching a stop sign on the Phillips today, still pedaling at full speed. There's no other way to say it, but the next thing I knew I was in the air and then skidding along the ground with the bicycle landing on top of me. I am uninjured save a few bruises. Traffic all around came to a stop.
I got up, laughing. What the H-E-DOUBLE-HOCKEY-STICKS had just happened?
Looked down at the bike:
Fortunately, I had a wrench, so I removed the front fender and that evil little stick (which, before taking the photo, I had removed in wonder and then replaced). How did that little sucker get in there?
Fender is toast. I liked that fender, too.
At this moment, I'm realizing that my left leg is aching some. I wonder if it's cracked.

I face, or head, planted in 2002. Broke my neck in two places. The break was "stable", thank goodness, because three guys tried to rob me after wards. Once they saw who they were dealing with, they bailed, I found a way to get home, went to a hospital - that was closed, got ambulanced across the city to an hospital that was open, missed three months of work and like having the story to tell. Why?

Sorry to hear about that Randy. My sister-in-law was involved in a hit & run while riding her bike in L.A. She was knocked out and broke several bones. When she regained consciousness, she discovered the driver had left and someone had stolen her bike. What is wrong with people?!

Ouch, I had an over the bars excursion when I was 15 that landed me in the ER for about four hours getting the sand, gravel and broken glass scrubbed out of my face, neck, arms and legs. Spent the whole rest of the summer on the couch.
I almost wonder if you just caught the end of that stick with your tire just right and it flipped up into your spokes, one in a million shot.

Ouch! Glad you're not seriously hurt. Too bad about the fender, at least that was all. And you now have a heck of a story to tell, with pics. 
The pic reminds me of a photo of a squirrel stuck in the spokes and snapped a fork of a Trek. Forgot where I saw that.

yikes! i'm glad you weren't more injured!
it makes me wonder whether those break-away stays that MKS fenders use on their front fenders are a smart idea, after all. i ditched mine, in favor of bolting the stays directly.

It appears to me that once the fender support was struck by the stick, it caused the end of the fender to contact the tire, bending into itself and stopping the rotation of the tire, thus sending the OP over the bars. I'd bet the bottom of the downtube may need some touch up paint, too.

It appears to me that once the fender support was struck by the stick, it caused the end of the fender to contact the tire, bending into itself and stopping the rotation of the tire, thus sending the OP over the bars. I'd bet the bottom of the downtube may need some touch up paint, too.
When I was about 8-9 a neighborhood kid threw a stick into my front wheel as I was riding down the sidewalk and the whole bike flipped over on top of me. I had forgotten that until just now, not a scratch from that one though.

Ouch! Had a header over the bars two summers ago. Got up and rode home, thinking: okay, I've got some serious road rash on my hands. One day later, knew I had two broken/horribly bruised ribs (same outcome/treatment either way, so we never got the x-ray). One week later, noticed the ripples up the back of my helmet, was glad it wasn't my head. Two months later, got my hand x-rayed for another reason, found out I'd broken a bone in it, too.
