Definitely worth the price if it is in decent shape.

Scapin's are nice bikes, or can be, depending on model.

The ad doesn't state the tubing; but with those components, even if the tubing was made of lead pipe, I'd say Run, don't Walk!

if that is a 59 or 60 and you don't want it I DO!!

I think it may be all Victory or Triomphe mix. that likely, if original, would make the frame Alleish? maybe a highend Tange yes?

EDIT : It is victory not triomphe, as it has a dual pivot clamp on the FD.

There seems to be a healthy assortment of bikes for not much scratch on the St. Louis craigslist.

that is nice looking great find. also another way to tell Vic from Triomphe is the capnut on Triomphe is hollow while Vic is the truncated cone. also the style of the shifter is slightly different. while Vic has that smooth top and the 'barrel' of the shifter is offset the barrel on the Triomphe is more centered like the older Record ones

so was it the exhusbands bike?

Nope thats the weirdest part, nice guy, maybe early 30's. I go into his garage and he has a RB-1, Cannondale Tri-Bike, and a Trek720.......so the guy knew what he had, he said he was selling it for $150 because he tried selling it for more on CL but no one ever contacted his, funny thing was I had never seen it on CL, and I check hourly .

Oh well, Im not complaining.

So would a good guess be that there is chrome under the paint..................?

why would you think there is chrome under the paint? if there is it would not be shiny 'show chrome'. most companies who used to chrome for stiffness (I am not sure I bought that) and corrosion would not have done a CroMor bike

Just from seeing other Scapins and reading that most owner found Chrome under their paint..................Now to buy some copper metallic grip tape to match the copper rails/rivets on the white Regal saddle I threw on it tonight

well as I said there was a time when chrome under tha paint was common on higherend frames.

I had a customer a long time ago with one of these, it was the first I had ever seen. it was the most exquisite orangeish reddish chrome color, it was very captivating. ful SR nice wheels, and saddle. he had this annoying tick and we tried everything. I finally, to my suprise, talked him into letting me take it home and ride it. it rode great and the noise was no big beal just a pedal or something. but I don't think I will ever forget that ride on this, at least to me, exoctic rare and uniquily colored bike. now I have ridden my share of nice bikes but like a Coicc these just seem to have some mystique to them

wait a second, did you add this Scapin to your signature already?

that finish is called Cromovelato in Italy and since this Scapin is a Cromor-tubed model it probably does not have chrome-plating (it would be more of a budget model). But since it's a Scapin it will almost certainly be a fine ride, and great score for $150!
