"The Raleigh"?
I just awkwhyerd a raleigh pursuit looks like 80's from the parts. The badge says "The Raleigh", never seen that before, whats up with that? is it more than just a marketing shill?
the frame seems fancy enough-527 triple butted cro-mo, but with medium-low parts. so I think I will hang onto it for a while and make it a trainer

I've seen that badge before. As far I as know there is nothing special about it.

Check the frame #, chances are it was manufactured or put together in a "former colony". I have a Reliant Mixte with the M in front of the Ser #, I've been told it stands for Malaysia.

I believe the ones marked "Cycle company of America" were all Chinese/Taiwan built and yes the headbadge and other markings are quite misleading.

Those are from the mid-80s when Raleigh licensed their name to Huffy who imported bikes from Taiwan, Japan, and the high end frames I think still came from Nottingham.

+1. Checking the serial number is the first step to determine the origin, unless there is a "Made in ..." decal. Raleigh had subsidiaries in about six different companies, in addition to various licensees and contractors. BTW, M does designate Malaysia.
