uvbears, That's a mountain bike crankset and will most likely require a wider bottom bracket spindle because it's a triple, besides look 'not quite right'. Here's an example of a road crankset https://cgi.ebay.com/ALLOY-CRANK-SET-...41421979069039 .

ok, so I have upgrade the wheels and aadded new brakes, cables etc. also i tweaked the derailier and it is running smooth.

the crank is super flexy and the bottom bracket seems to be rough (not smooth). I want to replace the crank and bb and add new pedals as well.

can someone pass me some info on good crank at a decent price that will work on this bike?

anything from harris cyclery?

thx!

Bikes: Upright and Recumbent....too many to list, mostly Vintage.

You've got some options.

Cheap and quick you can simply overhaul the BB; clean or replace the bearings and put new grease in and it will run smooth.

Slightly more expensive would be to overhaul the BB and replace the crankset with another Shimano or Sugino double that can use about the same length spindle.

More expensive still would be to replace the BB with a cartridge BB and put whatever crankset you want on there. Just pick a crankset you like and based on that you order the correct length BB and you're set.

MKS makes awesome pedals. Its hard to go wrong with them.

Any of these things are available at Harris Cyclery. If you want a Crankset that will look age appropriate for the bike, ebay is a good bet. Try searching for "Sugino Cranks"

thanks. yes, i would like to replace the bb with a cartridge bb for easier services / maintenance.

Once i replace the crank and bb I will take some pics of the finished product.

oh ya, how do i maintain the current paint job? it is a little rough but looks fine, especially considering the bike is 30 yrs old but i don't want it to get much worse. any tips?
