This barely used Suntour Cyclone derailleur just arrived a couple of days ago. I took some pictures for Velo-base and I figured I would share them here too.

Those of you who are photographers will realize that I am not. I did the best that I could with my little point and shoot and limited light.

Feel free to add any derailleur "eye candy" that you want.

Pics look pretty good to me. I have an old cyclone hanging off an old frame in the basement ... not nice & shiny like yours though.

With those pics you are either being far to modest or have your tongue firmly in cheek!

Those look great to me though I'm no photographer either. Anyone know how the guy from Disraeli Gears sets up his shots?

Probably uses a large format camera and several lights with soft-boxes, the key in photographing something like a dérailleur that is shiny metal is to avoid hot spots in the lighting, you want it nice and even in all directions. It takes a lot of time in a studio to get it set up right, although people who do a lot of product shots may have a setup where the lights are left positioned properly and they just put the camera on a mount, put the item in the right position and fire away. Best way to get such a shot at home, is wait for a dry overcast day, then set up outside because the lighting will be just about perfect.

I don't know if you would call it 'eye candy' but here is one you don't see everyday. which is why I really want a Mixte with RD hanger. I'll get it out and do the whole centerfold spread if you like.

Thank you for the compliments. I was being serious about not being a photographer. I did most of the work in photoshop, unsharp mask, curves and stuff like that. Other than that all I used was a large sheet of white paper and a basic point and shoot camera

I have never seen that one before. It looks like the offspring of a Shimano light action and a Gen 3 suntour cyclone. You can do the full photo shoot thing if you feel like it, if not then that is fine too.

Awesome Cyclone pictures, very well done. I feel quite lucky that the RD on my first 'nice' bike is so well regarded.

Like you said, they are well regarded. For me, they are easily the prettiest derailleurs that I have held in my hand. The finish is amazing and the body is compact and clever. They make the high end Shimanos of the era look gigantic and shapeless. I even think it's prettier than the Campy NR derailleurs I have.

The Jubilee on my TdF,

I have the 8speed version of that Dura-Ace RD and I agree, it is very sweet. Every bolt head uses the same size allen wrench and the two tone anodizing is very, very nice.

I guess my derailleur "eye candy" pic would be very predictable to many here:

Mavic's 80's SSC 851/860 derailleur set. Commonly known as the "Erector" style derailleurs from Mavic. fully servicable, but I seriously doubt if anyone who did not race professionally on these had really broken down theirs to replace worn parts, but it's nice to know you could, if it ever does wear out or gets damaged.

Kinda falls in the middle of the 80's derailleur shifting performance spectrum, but it sure stands out when it comes to looks different from all the others!

Would the sharp, angular shapes on this derailleur earn it "hard eye candy" status??

IIRC, the Regina derailleurs were re-badged Ofmega or Rino components.

But so so hard and expensive to aquire these days.....
I'd would want one if I had the money for it.

The Jubilee is a lovely unit. Pull back a bit so we can get the full effect, with the honeycomb dropout!

C record rear derailleurs in nice shape look very good. Here is one I photographed: daylight, taken on a mirror

I've grown rather fond of the black version of the Cyclone.
