I use bike flights. I separate the frame and fork to fit into a smaller box and can ship cross country for < $50. I recently shipped my DeRosa frame and fork (with $500 insurance) to Chicago for $30.

Thx for the info. These costs are reasonable enough to post a trade.

Here are two Motobecanes, both 62cm. These are 6cm too big for me. The green is a Grand Touring with 1080 tubing, iirc, and this very nice blue is a Grand Jubilee, with Vitus 172 tubing. I can strip the Grand Touring for a frame swap, leaving the essential French parts, or trade the whole package. The green paint is in very good condition, imo, much better than most of my restorations.

I'm very flexible on a swap. I'm 5'10" and ride a 56cm in vintage road bikes. I'd consider French, American (Trek), Japanese, Italian. I'm also looking for a vintage mtn bike frame in good condition, such as Ritchey or Marin, with rigid forks. I'm not sure how to size a Mtn Bike frame, so I'm guessing a medium. Also, I've been on a long-term quest for a 52cm(?) Motobecane Grand Touring late 70's mixte, in black and red.

edit: the blue Grand Jubilee is sold. The green, still available, but would prefer not to strip it. I'd trade for an entire bike in 56cm.

Sooo.... I have these three Trek MB frames. Two 820s and a Series 3. I have absolutely no idea if they're interesting to anyone, but I'd like to have that wall space back.

I'd take anything upside of a bologna sammich for 'em.

Sizes... that's a good question. I don't actually know. I'll measure them when I get home tonight and fill in the details.

I'm looking for a rigid fork Mtn bike. Those lower two look like possibilities. I don't know how to size them though. How tall are you? I'm 5'10".

1998 cannondale 300, center bb to center tt 14 1/4".i'm 5' 11", love short frames ( hill climber ) so i just ran a 400mm seat post., unfortunately, i don't know where it went, so the original comes with this frame.
frame, rock shox ( why does the number 21 come to my mind about these forks ??? ) , headset, crappy wedge bolt standard junk stem, seatpost, & clamp, bottom bracket ( shimano yes, alivio ??? ) brake levers ( generic ) and shimano rear derailleur ( alivio ??? )
put the bottom bracket back in just for the pictures, i'll pull it out if you want me too.

don't ask me to explain why i decided to start removing the original powdercoat 15+ years ago, i have no idea.
no cracks, tweaks or bends, between a chalk line, straight edge, and caliper depth guage it seems fine. just been hanging from my garage ceiling for 15 years ...

but i DID put many many many miles on this. it was a transport ride, but i used trails to get to town part of the way quite often. it was also my only bike, and only transportation for several years, so i would think nothing of taking a 26" mountain bike on a 25 - 30 mile road ride. i always kept my tires very hard, & i could piss road riders off quite noticeably while coming up on my seat rolling easily by them or their group while calling out " passing on the left "...

what do you have that i may want ???

I have a 21" 1985 Trek 600 frame I'd be interested in trading for a comparable 55-56cm frame. Anybody interested?

I think I got a stem for my Lemond that will fix the fit problem for me. I may not end up wanting to trade it. Pictures soon.

This Cannondale frame doesn't really fit your criteria apart from size, but how about my 1987 SR500 (w/factory custom graphics!); any interest?

You know my size; find me a trade

For now, if no one claims it, I'm going to clean it up build it back up to original-ish. Make it look just like the one in the catalog, except my white saddle isn't a Vetta. I found some of those triangular 105 Pedals in my big ol' box of pedals. Ordered some orange cable housing, even.

I have all those parts laying in my bin....

And the frame off this is sitting right next to it.....your size, no? 58tt? Pretty sure it's a 531 Raleigh frame. Likely repainted but elegant lugs.

Bianchi Premio frame and fork, free to good home if you pick it up here in Phoenix. Measures about 63 cm from center of BB to center of top tube. Black paint and decals are in fairly good condition. Made in Japan.

Diamondback Ridge Runner 23" top tube, 20.5/21"-ish seat tube. Wheels/handlebars/stem/saddle shown for illustrative purposes of (somewhat funky) geometry only--you will get just the frame, fork, headset, and seatpost. Based on the paintjob, it's a 1982 (ish).

The important info:
-26" wheels, cantilevers all around
-Head tube has been reamed/faced to 30.2, crown race to 26.4 (modern headset fits)
-Bottom bracket has been faced/chased
-[Suntour] dropouts were checked for alignment (100 front, 130 rear)
-Mid-fork brazes, hidden seatstay brazes. Only one set of eyelets front/back, though.
-Comes with a Shimano 6207 series headset installed in excellent condition
-Comes with the proper fit 26.6 seatpost. 400mm long (but I need my Pinhead, sorry.)

Seller had issues with proper measuring, when I got it, it was obvious that I wouldn't be able to use it. Looking for something of the same(ish) vintage, same idea--Bridgestone MB-6, MB3, Trek 8xx/9xx, Spec., etc. 1" steerers, please, lugs appreciated but not necessary. Would like a top-tube that is roughly 21.5-22" (546-559) C-t-C. Semi-horizontals would be amazing, but again, let me know what you've got.

I have a 64cm 1987 Peugeot Triathlon. It's a bit beat up & rusty inside BB, but been cleaned & sprayed with framesaver. It rides great, and I have most of the original parts, though some are corroded to each other (not the frame though).

Interested in similar quality, any material, size 58-60cm, maybe 62.

I think you're going to have a hard time finding a MTB in what you're describing as a roughly "square" frame: TT and ST roughly matching in length. You may have to look for more modern bikes when they moved away from the short ST and long TT. Or go with a touring or sport/touring bike. All the very early MTB's I've seen have that wack geometry that required super long seat posts.

My issue was more with the seller measuring the top tube as 21-and-change, instead of 23"
