Need some opinions on the condition of this 7400 group.

So i've been able to work out a reasonable deal with the seller and these are the pics of the parts. They all look great however, upon further examination of the photos, rear rederailluer to be specific, I remain skeptical about the "low mileage" statement of this sale. What do you guys think.

What is your definition of "low mileage"? If you are looking for a gruppo to put on a wall art frame, then you should look else where. But If you are thinking to put it on a bike that you will ride than I see no problem with it.

Well, I looked through the display and was barely able to not wet my diaper. I don't know what you see as a problem with the RD, my concern with these sort of no-hands-on sales are the important things that you can not see. What is inside the BB, hubs, & headset. I don't know what the seller is asking, but the thing that caught my eye with the sandy grit in the FD.
It appears to be an excellent DA gruppo otherwise however.

Looks really nice to me, aside from a tiny bit of grime. +1 on checking the bearing races.

Looks very good to me too, but I don't blame you for being skeptical. I myself bought a bike with a DA7400 group that looked very good in pics but turned out to be more worn out than I thought after I got it and started diassembilng the bike for a rebuild. Thing is, the finish quality on Shimano DA7400 components is so good and stands up to long hard service that they tend to look very good even when they are mechanically worn out from use.
Lessons learned for me.......

Seatpost looks like it's never been used...

Cogs look pretty new too; I'd expect to see some sign of upshifts on those cogs before much use at all.

I'd bet this gruppo's off a bike that's done almost nothing... but where's the crankset?

The guy said he would toss in these brake levers.
They look pretty darn good however the hoods look like they don't fit all that well. I would have to ask more questions about that. The seller said the crank was put onto his personal 7-11 build so I guess no luck there but I found one else where. The bottom bracket has its"Original bearings, bb has no grease at all and is clean." Not sure if that means the same as the hubs but im asking if they have been laced since they seem pretty mint looking.

Nice looking groupset.
I see what you're saying though. The photographer looks like he/she knows what he/she is doing. Makes it difficult to tell if the compnents are really that nice or if its just good photography.
Did you seal the deal yet? I dont know how much the 7400 grouppo is but the rest of the stuff on the site look kinda pricey.

looks good, but be careful of Fyxomatosis. I've seen them pushing similar 7400 groups for $2K before. With some careful eBay bidding and patience, you can put together a similar set for under $700 easy.

That's some excellent photography. What would all that typically be worth? The 7400 group set on the Trek 2000 I have could clean up that well. I hate the harsh ride of the aluminum frame.

I was able to bargain a deal for something below $900 for everything. Deal hasn't been sealed yet because I have some questions still. Andrew, fyxt. seller, doesn't seem to be exaggerating anything but the pictures make it really hard to determine the condition.

+1.

Nice group, but for $900 I would be (and will be shortly) buying new Campy 11. And that includes a crank and chain...

$900 would buy a pretty nice C&V bike with a pretty decent group...

Agreed.

I have a couple of bikes with flavors of 7400.

Nothing but great experiences with DA, but sheesh, those are major dollars we're talking.

I bought a 7400 gruppo from a forum member in the last year for a lot less.

I think I owe the young man a steak dinner!

Yes I realize its a hell of a lot which is why im still trying to work something out. Biggest problem is that the origins are in Australia which gives me a pretty hefty shipping cost already. Probably have a better off with ebay huh?

What's with the random "Andrew" btw? Is the seller's name Andrew?

Wow, I'd sell you my whole '87 Trek 2000 for hundreds less than what that group is gonna cost you. Might be best to stick with "the Bay".

Well shoot, I guess thats done, I decided to go 8-speed so that kind of invalidates this. Way cheaper now after some number crunching. Thanks everyone! But one quick question, anyone ever know if Dura ace made a 7410 seat post in titanium? I see one on ebay but I can't find anything about it.

Ouch, it looks really good. But, for that price? I don't know. I've seen some good looking Campy 8spd ergo gruppos selling on ebay for less. Is 7400 worth that much?
