Those things are gross! Send them to me for proper disposal.

Those have a particularly sweet sound to them, mellow not harsh, easy to listen to. "Mikey likes it."

They wouldn't make it into my wife's living room, but they sure as heck would work in our almost fully refinished basement.

They'd rock the light bulbs right out of their sockets.

I have my original 1978 Advent Utility speakers in my home office. They were exiled out of the living room a long time ago because the cabinets are a dark walnut veneer and didn't match anything since ...... oh, 1979. But they sound incredible.

Silly women.

BTW - yesterday I picked up a nice pair of shiny, very lightly used LP's - Jimmy Reed and B.B. King pressings from the mid-70's. Listened to them both (twice) today, while working and screwing around with you folks.

Spotted some interesting gear at a flea market this morning. A Pioneer SX 1000TW and a Sony 1130 amp:

The same seller had this Harman Kardon PM645:

I didn't ask for prices on any of them, I was busy lugging a really nice old photo tripod that I bought...

Those Advents look great. My wife could be convinced to allow such a set in the bedroom. It just takes a few pairs of shoes.

recent vinyl thrift shop finds:

Albert King
Little Milton
early Emmylou Harris
Fabulous Thunderbirds - 2 of em!
Steely Dan

and.......

Boots Randolph. That man can play a saxophone, and the sound engineers on the Monument label did an impressive job mixing. It is a very clean, high quality recording.

I also love the old ADVENTs. Unfortunately, it is no longer acceptable (and never really was) to "rock out". What I've done is invest in some most excellent headphones. I can sit at the PC and play games or do homework or visit with you guys and "rock out" to Band of Gypsies or Cream or Creedence Clearewater Revival or The Band or,... without disturbing anyone.

It really irks me to think of spending $300 to $500 for headphones until I realize that they are the only way I have to appreciate my music collection.

Speaking of rock'n'roll,... have you guys watched the movie "Almost Famous" on Bluray (I know Bluray is not C&V). If you were alive in 1970, you have got to see this movie. I laughed my ass off (and haven't found it since).

I'm into vintage audio gear, much to the dismay of the wife. But it takes me back to a simpler time.
I rebuilt these Altec 19's. I found them without the correct xo's and thick varnish. And the grills were busted up.

So I stripped the cabs and refinished them.

Patched the enlarged holes for the xo's.

Built Z19 xo's.

Built new grills.

And done.

These M19's are simply outstanding with my AU-D11 II.

Next up, Ohm Walsh 4's.

Nice bit of cabinetry restoration, those Altec Lansings look great. Is it just the pic, or did you add non reflective acoustic matte around the baffle of the horn?

The originals were missing so I ordered a pair of replica foams for around the horns.
Don't know if it maske the sound any better but they are supposed to be there and I have no complaints about the sound they make. But these are heavy speakers. 160 pounds each I think.

When I'm not Upgrading Vintage Bikes... I Turn to Vintage Audio!

In a different early life I ran A Service Center that repaired stereo equipment from the day. My most recent refurb. was a pair of Polk RTA-12C loudspeakers. Complete crossover upgrade, tweeter upgrade, and new gaskets for all the drivers. Very satisfying upgrade to a real classic pair of Polk's. Currently building a class A headphone amp. Looking for a used pair of Dynaudio Audio Gemini's for a winter project before the bike bug kicks in!

I picked up a pair of those over the summer. They just fit on top of the kitchen cabinets. It takes a bit of wattage to get them going, but when they hit their stride they sound great. Makes doing the dishes much more enjoyable.

You oughta check over at the Audiokarma forum. Seriously. Those folks have just about everything.
