Bikes: '39 Hobbs, '58 Marastoni, '73 Italian custom, '75 Wizard, '76 Wilier, '78 Tom Kellogg, '79 Colnago Super, '79 Sachs, '81 Masi Prestige, '82 Cuevas, '83 Picchio Special, '84 Murray-Serotta, '85 Trek 170, '89 Bianchi, '90 Bill Holland, '94 Grandis
The frame is size 59cm ctc.
Gomango, this one won't be for sale for several reaaons.
It is a truly nice bike, in my size, and it's my very first DeRosa.
The many Merckx bikes you saw on ebay were only sold because I try to keep my collection reasonable and as i already have the 10th anniversary and the 7/11 the others had to go.

WELL DONE! I was talking about that bike with another forum member...the awful description and lousy pictures really impacted the value...still, you could see how nice it was. I kept trying to convince myself I could make it work...but I couldn't. I'm really glad it went to someone like you.

OFG...I saw one over at Bilenky's that might have been the single most gorgeous frame I've ever seen. Cream white, gold leaf on the seaststay caps (but it didn't even look tacky!)...just amazing and subtle. I know EXACTLY which bike Picchio went for, and from the little you could see in the photos, it looks amazing. My only concern would be that the woman who owned it claims to have been 5'8 and the only owner (hence my interest) but the frame looked around 58cm to me.

I had a Kellogg that I tried everything to make it fit me. I sold it to a friend, now his favorite bike, and he has a few to choose from. Tom does unbelievable work.

And one thing I like about certain De Rosas, which I add in the interests of at least pretending to honor the OP.

My brother and I once spent an hour or more with Tom at his shop in the barn next to his house, and he was great to chat with, and very willing to talk about old bikes, his days at Ross, etc.

Even the inside of the tubes inside at the BB are filed smooth. Tom keeps fantastic records, and is helpful in relating all the info of the frame to the new owner, just give him the serial number. He will tell you everything except the original owner's name. Tubing used, measurements, intended purpose, etc.
If I were ever to get a custom steel, he would be at the top of my list.

Picchio...I spoke with her on sizing and she measured it at 23 inches ST. I was trying to get over to her house to look at it before auction end, but it didn't happen. I didn't think anyone would bid...I was going to make a play after auction end.

That makes it a bit later than '72 for sure. De Rosa adopted them fairly early, so I think the bike could be as early as '75. Next question is which headtube decal does she have - the one with the red banner beneath the heart, or the world-championship band diamond?

It has the Red Banner beneath the heart.
The cable guides might have been a custom build on demand?

Possible, though not the most likely scenario. The red banner is good - the changeover is circa '78. I'm betting on '75-76 for yours at this point, though as I say, it's possible the guides were requested by a customer - it would be helpful to know or see what type they are, as this might tell is whether they're custom jobs or the standard fare.

Oh, I forgot. I asked the owner what original parts where mounted on the bike and he said it were Record. I thought it must have been Super Record but he said they were not yet out at the time he bought the bike.
Hmm....
I know the guy and the shop where he bought the bike but I don`t think he can really help me identifying the date of the bike.

Yeah, but he know that the Nuevo Record came out after Superrecord so I suppose he meant thre first generation SR.
I guess I will never find out the exact date. These DeRosa bikes from that era are all different.

Correct, you're going to have to live with a range of dates guesstimate. I'm personally skeptical that the bike is pre-1975, but it's a super bike regardless.

Next step are the Brake Cables. I am thinking about yellow. Did Campagnolo made them and if yes, where do I get these?

You can definitely find period yellow cables. I usually find stuff like that on E-you-know-where.

I wrote him at least 5 mails and never got an answer. Not very customerfriendly in my opinion if you consider that I purchaised already several items from them before.
If you see some on eb it would be kind of you to send me a link

That is one beautiful bicycle. I just purchased a 1976-1978 (I initially was sure it was a 1977). I purchased from the original owner who brought it here from Florence back in 1980. Looking forward to scheduling some time to get it cleaned up / some TLC and will post pics hopefully next week or so. Congratulations on your De Rosa!
