My 74 International
Here are some pictures of my 74 International that my wife got me for Christmas. The bars that came on it were extremely narrow so they were swapped out for a set of GB rando bars. I think some sort of either black leather or dark brown leather bar wrap would look great on it. I traded for a set of Bleumel Airweight fenders that need some TLC and new fender stays made for the rear. I think they should clean up nicely and will look great on the bike. The wheels that are currently on it are not the ones I'm going to use, they are my backup wheels. I'm rebuilding the OE Campy NR hubs to some sort of period looking clincher for normal use. I have an extra set of NR hubs that I'd like to build into a set of tubulars for originality purposes. The bike is in very good shape except for some paint acne on the top tube (picture 5).... Enough words, time for pictures

Very cool, Rob. And great find on the Bluemels Airweight fenders! I also have a '74 International in that color.

Thanks guys! I'm very excited about the fenders. Do you think brass stays would be strong enough? They'd look great, but I question the strength factor. Otherwise it's steel (1/8") either painted or sent off to get chromed.

Hi Rob -
After seeing this, I've decided to become a marriage counselor, so that I could recommend that every wife buy her husband such a wonderful C&V bike!
You should be stoked about the fenders. They are going to look grrreat. I can't speculate about the longevity of the brass stays though.
BTW, this is the second Raleigh thread today where the bars were upgraded to GB Randonneurs. (Your Intl and Neal's SC) - IMO there are none more beautiful (or functional) bars - excellent move!

Looks awesome Rob, BTW I got the frame today. One of the better pack jobs I've seen, thanks.
I think the fenders will look really great too, the color of that frame is sweet, the chrome lugs really set it off.
I agree that some leather to match the saddle would look fantastic.

Jamie, I'm glad you got the frame. After receiving a few poorly packed frames, I've gone on a crusade to properly pack bikes!
Hopefully tomorrow I can find some 1/8" stock and make some stays

I've made stays out of brass rod for DIY fenders and have found the brass to be just as stiff (if not stiffer) than the usual aluminum alloy stays. Looks better, too.

I think I'm going to have to use steel stays. The way the Bleumels are designed, I need to use an 1/8" stay. Brass is too flexible. Maybe if I redesign the way it attaches to the fender....
