All very true, and I agree that it's what makes this forum so much fun.
But since you bring up the issue of language, Auchen, I must respectfully mention that on the recent "Stamped Dropouts" thread, you used "inferring" where I think you meant "implying."
Editors are a pain in the butt sometimes, but we see it as our job.

I have to concede that "implying" would have been a better choice of word -(meaning to "indicate" or "suggest").
"Inferring" likewise means to "imply or suggest", but this is only listed as the FOURTH definition in dictionary.com - well down the list of meanings given.
- So are you implying, or inferring, that I should kill myself now?

Maybe Joe Gardner (founder of Bike Forums) can confirm, but I think I remember a time prior to 2001 when the forums had a malfunction of some sort which resulted in several of us being dropped, making it necessary for us to re-register. This resulted in several of us losing a year or so longevity within the forums. With that, I think we also lost all of our posts previous to that malfunction. I could be wrong, but it just rings a bell with me...but I'm old and the memory.........

No, you should take very good care of yourself. You ride the same size frame I do, I think, and you seem to find a fair number of really nice bikes. I want to stay on your good side while you keep doing whatever it is you're doing to find them--maybe someday I will manage to talk you out of one of them. If I didn't already blow it by being a such wiseass about word usage.

And so it seems "I'll live to write another day"
(if you'll excuse the pun!)
- Getting back on-topic, I noted that our founder, Joe Gardner has a join date of 10-24-99. His search history though is sparse, and apparently truncated, so I don't think there will be many historical insights there.

pastorbob, sure would be nice to hear from EastHill. Could you use your powers of persuasion to get her to pop in and say hello? If not, I understand. A lot of the qualities that have made C&V Forum special come from the spirit that people like Ms. EastHill brought here.
I do miss having her around.

Miamijim, I'm guessing, but I suspect that (like many of us, including me) you'd be considered an old man in MOST parts.

I remember (back in the day) coming over to Bike Forums after getting fed up with another forum I was on. True, I tend to come and go at times, but I always come back here to my favorite place. The C & V forum was really what prompted me to join in the first place, as the attitudes here are much better IMO. The knowledge that can be gained here is immense.
Its been a helluva ride, I just hope it dont stop.

Bikes: A few
My addiction began in late 2004 when Joe Gardner was still running the site. I had just bought my first road bike in many, many years. I bought a new mtn. bike in 1999 and used it, but not a lot, and just to get around town. My new road bike was an old Bridgestone 450 and I remember I was hesitant to join, but had to in order to ask Tmar about my bike. Everyone was so nice that I was instantly hooked, and ADDICTED TO BIKES! I then bought a Miyata before I new it, and then got interested in touring (thanks touring forum), so I got touring bikes, then needed something for triathlons, and something to commute, and so on. I have had a steady flow of bikes through my hands and always seem to have six or seven on hand (three or four remain the same)- in my one bedroom apartment! Of course, there's my work stand, extra wheels, tools, extra racks, different panniers and others accessories in my kitchen/eating area, living room, bedroom, and any place I can put things. Hmmm... maybe the BF's are to blame for my remaining a bachelor! I don't even like to drive my car and rarely do now; and I live in Los Angeles! Thanks BF. Bikes and people on BF make me happy!

Just curious--how long has this forum existed? From looking at the "join dates" of other members, I don't recall seeing any that date before 2006, the year I joined. Does the Forum not date back much before that? Or do members just lose interest and wander off after five years? Or what?

I waste significan time (just ask Mrs. Road Fan) in 50+, Framebuilders, and Long Distance, but C&V is the main one.

I'm still a newbie to some of you "old heads" on this forum, but think I'm above the median age. My brother (fender1) got me back into cycling and I lurked for several months before joining. I tend to read more of the content here then actually post. I have posted in other forums, but this is home.

It's harder to clean tire tracks off a carpet than off a hard floor.
What's the median age here?

I joined in January 2009, so it didn't exist before then.
Seriously, I had had enough of usenet. This is nicer.
I didn't poke my head into C&V for a long time. I figured it would be a lot of arguments about esoteric stuff that didn't matter. That was a shame. Now I come here every day and don't visit any other section as often.
I still like the mechanics forum. There are some fantastic threads there. The trouble is that there are some super-boring threads there, too. I want to learn, not help with common problems whose solutions are well documented and repeated a gajillion times.

I'm still new. Jan 08 is it? Before this I spent 5 years or so on a motorcycle forum. Before that I spent 5 or so years on a Jeep forum. So it went Jeep, motorcycle, bicycle. I figure in another 2 years I'll leave here and join a walking shoe forum.

But on the way, you'll be on the unicycle forum. Look for the youtube video of the guy doing mountain unicycling!
