A shot in the dark
OK, I have no idea why I did that. I love Della Santa's. Saw this bike browsing around, put it on my watch list. Then I get a reminder e-mail from eBay, and put it on my snipe list. Next thing I know, I won it.
From the looks of it, the seller does not know much about bikes. I will need to talk and figure out the best way to ship it. Anyone interested in helping in Spokane, WA?

Like I said, a shot in the dark! I have no idea what the top tube dent looks like, what the wheels are, or even the size. Della Santa likes shorter seat tube and longer top tube, so it looks to be about my size. I figure a 753 frame and Delta brakes should be worth it.

OK, I just received the bike. It was expertly packed and shipped by Steve's on Cannon Street in Spokane, WA. Unfortunately, there is a real problem, a kink in the seatstay. I have not yet talked to the seller. I would like some opinions on whether this can be fixed without a seatstay replacement:

I am not too worried about dealing with the seller, I figure the worst case is I will be stuck with the shipping cost. I knew there were dings and scrapes, but was not interested in frame restoration and a repaint. I liked the patina, I already have a newer Della Santa in perfect shape, don't need another. My question is, given this is lightweight 753 tubing, is it safe to roll out the kink and cold-set the rear triangle? My gut feeling is no.

The seatstay seems like nothing compared to the top tube. Wow, that looks totally trashed to my eyes. Also, I believe 753 tubing is more brittle and lacks the ductility that you would need to straighten it. This is the kind of thing you need to be clear about before bidding, no how good a deal it seems at first. I hope the components are worth what you paid for the bike, and if not, follow Robbie's advice.

Well, the seller mentioned the top tube ding, which is really cosmetic and not a problem in my eyes. The chainstay dent makes it probably unsafe to ride. I can imagine it buckling in a hairpin descent...

Ask the seller for repair reimbursement.
Here's someone folks around here rave about.
Dave Anderson Custom Bicycles

or, of course:
https://www.dellasanta.com/
Have them shoot prices for both issues just for grins.
If it were larger, I'd gleefully take it off your hands and take on the burden.

Having had other repairs done, I know this one would cost more than what I paid for the bike, so I can't ask the seller for reimbursement. I am not sure what is fair. I can think of two possibilities: send it back to seller, or sell it on eBay with good pictures and full disclosure, have the seller re-imburse me for the difference. The latter option sounds fair to me, but could increase the number of dissatisfied parties

That is definitely not a ding! Tough situation. Perhaps you could pay fair price for the components and have the seller reimburse you what's left and pay to have the frame shipped back.

The builder is Roland Della Santa from Reno, Nevada. The decals say 753, the bottom bracket is stamped 753, I doubt the stays are anything else.
It looks like everyone agrees riding a bike with a kinked seatstay is a bad thing. At least I don't hear any testimonies about riding a similar frame safely.
