Please excuse my Cinelli handlebar ignorance.

Can any one tell me which Cinelli logo is the earlier of the two? Both bars are Mod. 66-38, non-grooved and 26.4 dia. All the bars I purchased throughout the '80s had the top logo. The bottom set I bought NOS on eBay about a year ago and that was the first time I ever saw that logo. Also, can anyone approximate the years? Thanks

BTW: I tried Velobase and I still can't determine which logo is the earlier one.

The other side of both bars have the same Cinelli logo as the top bar except instead of "Campione del Mondo" under the logo it has "66-38".

So, I guess the answer to your question is: yes.

I believe the lower one is the oldest.
Before that, I think the logo was a type of crest.

As I just learned today from a C&V expert of indisputable knowledge:

Shields and Stars: older

'Cinelli': newer

Not exactly.

I'm quite sure that member is referring to these shields:

Note that the Criterium (above) used dual crests; the other models had the name at left:

The logos above were phased out in 1978 in favor of the double Flying "C:"

...and sometime later on (don't know the date), Cinelli reintroduced left-hand model names with the Flying C logo at right. Each logo differs depending on the bar model. Additionally, these later editions are satin in finish; not polished:

For the record, the new Cinelli repop bars are done up in the same way as the last incarnation.

For those who wish to polish down the satin finish...

It can be done, but you end up wavering very close to having no logo at all.

+1

No one's knowledge is "indisputable," IMO, but yeah.

Not if you use a chemical stripper to take off the anodizing (which is the satin finish). Then it can be buffed to a high polish without affected the stampings.
