1986 Cannondale road, will a 102mm spindle work?

Hi all,

I just picked up a Campy Record 10 speed crankset and would like to put it on my 1986 Cannondale. It currently has a Campy Athena BB which I roughly measured at about 115 using a ruler. When I put the new cranks on I measure about 13mm from the inside face of the inner chainring to the seat stay, and 10mm from the inside face of the large chainring to the chainstay. There's clearly a chainline problem and the manual does specify a 102mm spindle.

Does anyone know if this will be a problem, before I pull the trigger on a new BB?

Thanks.

C.

With the 10-sp crankset, you'll have to run that 102mm spindle.
Been there, done that. The bb spindle length is specific for certain cranksets.

check with junkfoodjunkie. I think he's running that same setup, using a 102mm bb.

Thanks Robbie. Never did hear from him but I plowed ahead anyway (even in spite of Cannondale themselves, who said it wouldn't work but to 'visit a local authorized Cannondale dealer who will.....').

It works beautifully. Didn't even have to adjust the derailleurs. 200 hundred miles on it now and no sign it's now a hybrid 10sp front and old school Suntour Winner 7 sp freewheel.

Anyway, just wanted to close this in case someone else comes this way.
Thanks.
