Goossens Special
Hey all, I just picked up a mystery bike. It's got a badge that says "Goossens Special" made in Chicago. It's a skiptooth sprocket fixie. It has wood rims that came with it too.
I've tried to Google "Goossens" but I have been able to find nothing that has to do with bikes.
Do you know something about this bike? Help?!

It is probably identical to the one I saw the other day. But, like you, I have no pictures to share.

There were hundreds of brands of cycles made in US up to 1905 or so. Wheelmen.org has a lot of specific brand information. Factories often built several different brands and there were other brands that shared names but were completely separate entities.
Like today, there were component makers, frame builders etc. and only a few of "all in one" places like pope and schwinn. Head to the library and search old department store catalogs.

Can't help you with the bike as such, but "Goossens" is definitely a Belgian (Flemish) name. So that would make it a bicycle built by Belgian immigrants. If I'm not mistaken, there once was a publication called "the Flemish Gazette" in Michigan or Illinois - might be an angle if you're getting nowhere with your search.
