Alpha brake lever/modern cable end compatability question

These are kind of cool looking but the little hole that the end of the cable seats in is too small for the round end of the cable. Would I kill myself if I used a shift cable? Maybe I need to spend some quality time with a file and a new cable end.

Use a brake cable. Even it it's too large to seat entirely the smaller part of the end barrel will keep anything from slipping out.

I had kinda hoped that but the barrel rotates. It sorta catches but I don't feel so good about it.
I just filed one down and it seats properly. I'm about half done with the second. It's taking just long enough that I probably won't get to take this bike for a ride tonight but I feel better about doing it right.
Thanks, though.

Ok, both cables done. Got a 5 minute ride in. I've been dying to ride this bike. I'll post pics real soon.
But I'm still curious, I've never heard of Alpha brakes and the internet doesn't say much either. Was there once a smaller standard for these little cable ends?
