Campy Record 10 shift lever replacement.

I broke the paddle lever on my Record 10 shifters and have a replacement. Has anyone ran into any problems I should know about? There are some very good videos on youtube for the installation, no sound though. Other instructions have been hard to come by.

Is there a nightmare in my future?

This is going on my Gazelle, so the sooner I get this replaced and the bars wrapped, the sooner everyone gets to see pictures.

It's a nice 10' bike. Gets a little uglier as one gets closer.

I never had to rebuild my 10sp Ergos while I owned them, but I did rebuild 2 8sp Ergo sets, including 2 thumb mechanisms. If things haven't changed, then it should be pretty straightforward. You might check over in Mechanical Forums, too.

What I learned from my (limited) exposure to the Ergos was a methodical approach keeps things manageable. If you get in a hurry, it can get messy. I learned that one on my first rebuild.

Haven't done it myself, but I don't think you'll run into any problems if you're just replacing the paddle lever behind the brake lever. I'm nearing on ordering a new right hand body for one of my bikes to improve the quality of the shifting but don't have any first hand experience yet.

I've done it. Biggest worry is getting all the little pieces to line up correctly while under spring tension before you bolt everything tight. It will take a few tries but you will know when it lines up. L & R levers are symmetrical except the right side has an extra thin washer that goes above the spring retainer. I went crazy looking for a left one that never existed! Good luck and have your laptop nearby for reference.

Haha, thanks. I plan on having the assembly video I found on youtube going while I'm trying. I'm doing a left lever.

Also plan on having someone else there to watch me disassemble and reassemble to keep track of part order.

It seems like a lot of little pieces to take out just to insert one part held in place by an over glorified pin and two o-rings.

The shifter paddle is basically the first thing at the head of the bolt on the lever end running through the entire mechanism, so it's the last piece to come off and the first back in during assembly.

There used to be an issue with one of the pivot bolts being left-threaded. If there is any mark on the bolt head (from the bars side) at all, proceed with caution and try both directions. You really shouldn't have to force any of the parts. If you're methodical in the process and keep things in order you'll do fine.

Another thing that helped me immensely with my rebuild was having the Campagnolo shop tech sheet handy (I downloaded and printed it from the Campy site). The exploded view diagram is very helpful.

Take lots of pictures as you go for even better "memory".

Yeah, I've given the diagrams a look, though the ones i've found don't appear to relate specifically?

This diagram is good for a visual parts list. The YouTube vids are good for showing how it goes together. Just jump right in. The rebuild was intimidating before I actually did it because of all the research. Once I started, I knew I could finish without problems.
