Soma Albatross bars are winging their way to me as we speak.

my next issue is the BB. it looks like it will be a Phil but I stumped on the correct length. Phil list 111.5 with 3mm right offset, or a 115 with 5mm right offset. according to the Campi catalog 18 I need a 112 with 3mm right offset. which would be the better option? does anyone have a suggestion for a different BB?

as for the tires it seems I have a few offers via the ISO/Trade thread for some x25 Paselas so that issue may be solved in a few days.

OK a few things have happened but I still have a long way to go. I got the correct Phil BB and installed. the Soma Albatross bars also arrived and I installed them. things are looking up on this project, but of course there are issues.

1st I thought I would use red cables, chainring bolts, and bottle cage (plus some other misc. bolts) to bring out the red on the decals, but now I am not sure.

early on someone suggested brown Brooks saddle and grips and I agree they would look nice but they will clash with the red cables and other things. would gold (assuming I can find it) housing be a better choice? where do you recomend I get them?

a big thank you to; Iowegian for helping to solve the tire dilemma the 25s look OK but we shall see after the fenders go one. Shnibop for the fabulous SR cranks. Henry III (I think??) for the 48t ring for the faux half step.

during this project I have discovered that I dislike adjusting MAFAC pads about as much I as I hate cantilevers but they do add to vintage look I wanted.

OH I forgot to post the second issue that cropped up.

Is there a reason you didn't go high flange on the hubs? Also, are you looking for a set of solid Campy axles?

Oh, and what did you do with that SR track HS?

Keep up the good work.

thank you

I had a real hard time deciding not to go with HF hubs. as I have mentioned in other post I am trying to make a 7spd shimano hub standard on all my bikes. I seriously considered using the Electra hubs and respacing a custom 7spd cogset or using a cassette rear and HF front. in the end the bronze shimano hubs won out.

yes I did post somewhere that I am looking for Campi solid axle sets for a pair of hubs. I want to SS a set of my older hubs and I thought I would switch them to solids while I was at it. I think I need the complete set as the solid axles are smaller in diameter.

These axles I have are 10mm rear and 9mm front. I have the cones as well.

They have a wide central ridge that old rims never had. They're good rims, I use them, but not on something I want to look period.

In my experience, the solid track axles and the hollow QR axles were the same size and thread on Campagnolo. Except I see someone posted Tipos. They may be smaller...

Soma Albatross bars? Are you sure they came from there? Albatross is a Nitto model and I don't see it on their site. Could they have come from Rivendell?

they are Nitto's Albatross, and yes from Soma. they are kind of hidden and you need to dig around the site a bit to find them

I could tell they were Nittos by the extra long grip area. Don't be tempted to shorten them. They are only thin-walled for the first couple of inches and your Barcons won't fit.

I never thought of cutting them. I just pushed the brake levers forward since I don't know what grips I am using just yet.

I cut mine because they came too far back for comfort and had to use a die grinder on the inside to make the Barcons fit. Since the brake levers are normally at the end of the grips, the end of the bar determines where they go. I like my levers to be clamped at the beginning of the curve so they kick out slightly. All of my upright bars are trimmed for that reason.

I realize I updated this old post a nice Sunday afternoon but I am suprised no one has been curious about the rag draped over the crank. how often does someone post a pic like that?

well I was hoping for it to be big fabulous suprise with somehting a bit unusual but it turned into another frustrating debacle.

I thought this "Suicide" FD would go well with the look I was going for, especialy with a faux halfstep. unfortunately it looks like either the angle of the ST is not relaxed enough, the clamp is intended to face the rear of the ST or... the FW cogs need to be bigger than the chainwheels.
there is not room to turn the clamp rearward for a better position.

not on this one is seems. this lever moves in an arc from 12:00 to 3:00, 12:00 being the bigring position and 3:00 being the small ring.

Heck, I bet some C&V forum members might have one just lying around in their stash that might find better use on a soon to be road going Hetchins! Maybe once your need for one is noticed someone might soon step up.
Again, I thought I've seen these at eBay once in a while.....but I don't remember how much they go for though......

That would be very nice. I'll just keep a lookout on ebay for one.
