Hello Chombi I am glad to see atleast one person remembers my postings. as for the Hetchins she is sitting lonely in the corner. I am not rushing to build her a few reasons
1, I am still undicided between drops and full racing/fast bike build or a more of a classic 'clubish' racer/randonneurer with dove or northroad bars and halfstepish gearing.
2, I need to have the frame coldset for 130 hubs, I am also considering looking to see if someone close can drill and tap for that portacatena chain holder.
3, it is uncomfortable to spend alot of time at the bike stand as my knee hurts when I stand alot. I can't wait to get it fixed
I did pickup some nice parts but not sure if they will go on the bike or not. I believe I can run a SR rd with a 42/48 and a 12-26ish cassette, but I am going to keep the Rally around until I know for sure. if I go for the upright look these levers may look a bit out of place but I'll have to build it and see how they look. I got a super cool fd but you'll have to wait to see that.
OH I was releived to see I can use 700 wheels on it!!

Wow, is that celeste color I see on those brake levers??!
The centerpulls look so right on the bike so far. kinda follows through nicely on the ecclectic flavor of the Hetchins. It will look even better all cabled up.
I vote for the Rally(?) long cage RD!

Celeste? no just that funky grey Campi used on the Eculid ATB kit. I agree about the center pulls. the new bikes on the Hetchins site look nice but the curly stays just scream 1940s. so I am going to try real hard to keep it classic looking. now where to find x30 tubullars....
the Rally would be cool but the FD requires a close ratio chainwheel set up so I may not need the longcage. it is nice to look at though

I did a little shopping at VO today (very little) and got some of there 'squeal free' cantilever shoes, and a front cable stop for in the headset. I forgot there nice looking long one for the back and straddle cable hangers.
I looked at their rims but I am not sure if I really need a $78 ea 22mm rims do I? I am kind of leaning toward the Sun CR-18.
with a bit of luck I'll take her in for a little cold setting and dropout alignment.
I also put a different frame in the stand that was part of my winter projects but I am just now getting around to it. it should be an intersting bike when I am done. sorry no hints

yes thanks you. the Mafacs seem to be a good fit both mechanically and looks wise too. I am keeping an eye out for a nicer pair on Ebay maybe some competitions

just a breif update, I purchased a set of cranks for the Hetchins from a fellow C&Ver yesterday, now I need to hunt around and see if I have hte right spindle about otherwise I will be on the hunt for a XXXXXXXXX BB.
I am thinking the gearing will be something like a 13-28 and a 42/48 in the front (Oh I think I mentioned that) a bit leasurely but with the 48x13 I still should be able to cook along if I wanted to. I am also going to try and get the frame set and the dropouts aligned this week.
I still need to decide for sure on bars but definitely something up right. but not a cheesy as these steel bars.

Good News! a few things to update on the Hetchins. I was at the shop today to get the frame set, BTW if Mechanics can afford two days a week off and to come in at 12:30, I need to get back in the bike business. anyway I got the frame reset to match the hubs I want to use in it and most of my non Campi indexing biikes. I also got a rear wheel respaced to serve as a spare, I forget the C&Vr I bought them from but thanks they are nice. also I have a pair of nice xxxxxx cranks enroute from a C&Vr so now I need to dig up a BB.
when I got home from a two day trip to NJ, I found a few boxes on the deck. a box from VO with brake pads and front cable hanger. a box from Ebikestop with some stuff for that Volpe I am selling HINT HINT. also a pair of cranks from a C&Vr, what I am going to do with I do not know, but I could not turn such a good seal on a pair 172.5 cranks w/ a weird triplerizer.
I also decided on a rim, the Sun CR-18 polished. the shop is ordering them for me at $25 ea, I know I can get them online for 23.95 but I don't pay shipping. I dropped of the rear hub but need to mail the frnt.

Hope the Htechins gets done before your summer riding season so the suspense on what it turns out to be will end. Not that often we get to watch a Hetchins get built up here.
What's the thread count on the Celeste sheets?.....must be Italian??..

I know everyone here will blast me but... the Hetchins in now 135mm same at the Cornelo, the Bianchi Vento and several biikes that I can swapp wheels between.
I hope to get it done soon too but my riding season is way off
. OH I forgot to post this. I made passing mention to knee issue in the thread announcing the arrival of the Hetchins. well I too advantage of the nice weather monday and took my streeterized mountain bike out for a spin and it was not a good idea. so if the surgery still goes the 29th, hopefull I will be riding by 1 June.

Sounds like you made a sensible move respacing the frame. If it makes ya feel any better, I respaced my '39 Dawes to 126mm from 118.

OK just an update things are going slow here, I have a problem with work so I am trying to husband my funds for more important issues.
I did get a fabulous set of SR cranks from a C&Ver thank you. now I need a BB, I found one on ebay for 100 but the seller says it is 115mm which sounds odd. for 100 I may as well get a Phil. I have a few offers of a different, or maybe nicer looking or better quality brakeset so I am waiting to see how they pan out.
I did run across something odd though. I was tryong to put the VO headset cable hanger on when I discovered the HS has loose balls! I am sure I am still grnding a few into the carpet. I think I have the correct number back in but it feels weird. I am not sure just what HS this is, it is alloy but only has Campi stamped in the top of the wrench flats of the upper cup and the locknut. I am not sure if this HS even uses a retainer although I would find that odd. anyone recognize it? I gleened this pic from ebay and you can see the bearing retainers are not pictured with it. I may be on the hunt for a nice SR HS soon.
also the fork is not grooved for the key or tab on the hanger, is it a big deal if I grind it off?

on my XXXX XXXXXX project I am awaiting a fork that is in transit. it is amazing how little you can do to a bike without a fork.

OK I discovered the HS is a SR Track so no retainers. I guess I will have to bite the bullet and buy a Phil BB for the SR cranks. I dropped off the front hub and the wheels are being built. I may wait for handle bars as I my actually make Ttown next weekend so perhaps I can find something eycatching there. I recieved the chainring for my pseudo half step gearing.
the XXXXXX XXXXX project is stalled out awaiting a FD and fork both of are 'in the mail' so perhaps i can tie that up by the end of the week.

well once again things have gone awry. I got the wheels yesterday and they look fabulous. however I somehow ordered 700x32 pasela tires and not x25 or 28 as I thought. the tires look great but there seems not to be enough room for the fender and the tire in the rear triangle.
the type of fender I want to use bolts to the stay bridge, or is it BB bridge?, but there is not enough room for it and a bolt head. I could put the fender on the frong side of the bridge but ti looks funny and will press on the seattube.

OH on a side note, if I wanted to turn a pair of older Campi hubs to nutted instead of QR I just need the track axle set yes? the older Nuovo Rec era hub shells are the same right?

I agree with your choice of the albatross bar. It will give it that bit of rakishness you won't get with regular uprights and goes with the special flavor of those curved stays.
It's slowly but surely getting there, Hope it's done soon enough for this season's riding!
