Bikes: 25 at last count. One day I'll make a list

The dude!

The Dude is a Vista road bike I got quite a ways back. It's been sitting out in the barn for some time waiting to be cleaned up and flipped.
So the other day I spied it and decided it was time to do something with it. Ok so I need some stuff for it like cables, tires and the like. I asked my wife if she would pick up the parts for me as I was working a lot and couldn't get to the store. She's so helpful!
When she gets home I see that she mistakenly bought a set of 27x1 3/8 all terrain knobbies instead of the cheapo road tires i wanted.
I stood looking at the bike and back the tires and a idea formed in my head. Maybe a little hybrid conversion action would be just the thing that this bike needs! I mean it already had a little attitude with the flat red paint job and "Dude" logo someone did to the bike in it's past.
So I start doing a little parts picking from the bin and what you see is the results.
I find the crankset a little unique. It's a steel cottered but is running a early Front Freewheel chainwheel. I replaced the rear(it was really rusty) with a Suntour freewheel so now it has 2 freewheels! It had a really cheap cable layout and I had to do a bit of work and add some parts to get it right.
I think I went a little overboard for a flipper and to be honest I really like it now but I dont really need another commuter.... It sure does ride nice though!

You could put a set of drops onto it now with those micro knobbies and do a CX build. It's frumpy looking but still cool in some weird way. lol.

honestly - the fact that it has a DUDE! sticker on it brings it to the front of the stable by default

The Dude is definitely a keeper. It just screams 70's. You need to ride that wearing a denim suit and platforms.
