Panasonic DX-6000

I just picked up a '89 Panasonic DX-6000 at a local swap and am wondering if anyone can suggest reasonable upgrades, regarding components. I

Werd. It can come back to bite you when the time comes to move it along to the next rider.

I like Panasonic's DX series and I know I am not alone. That's is a terrific bike you have there and (IMO) you really don't need to mess with it unless the money is burning a hole in your pocket. Put a proper stem on it and enjoy it.

I only wish (money was burning holes in my pocket). Anyone have any ideas where I can get started in determining what type and size of stem I need?

Nice bike. I'd like to find one myself just because I've heard they're very nice bikes and they seem show up for prices that would imply they're undervalued. Have fun riding it!

Meh. I've never understood that line of thinking. Pay what you think something is worth, and don't be ashamed if you payed more than someone else. If you paid less, good for you. No need to hide what you paid for something.

I think only if you're trying to flip stuff to people on the forum or something. But that would be kinda lousy anyway if you're trying to sell it for more than it's worth on the forum. If you're selling at a fair price, no harm regardless of what deal you may have gotten on it. If you're not selling it on the forum, which I think is generally a better bet anyway, then it doesn't really matter. And you're helping the members of the forum evaluate their own bikes/what they should look to pay for a similar bike. I think it's a good thing to share.

YOU may have that logic, but I am certain there are many others who do not.

Meh, take this discussion to it's own thread.

Sweet DX-6000. Not too many of those pop up.

6000 is a nice, nice bike. Tange Prestige tubing, 600 tricolor and easily upgradeable.
High end on a par with any steel frames out there.

Nice pick up. It appears to be from 1989.

An OEM stem would have been an SR FX-100 alloy stem. A Nitto would be a nice sub.

I've been looking for a Bridgestone RB-1 for the last month but haven't found one that fell within my budget. Luckily, in my research I came across this bike as a possible substitute. With even more luck, I found this Panasonic at a local bike swap. I believe it's a 56, even though it was listed as a 54, I would have preferred a 53 but the price was right and I'm sure I can make it work (size wise).

If you can't, let me know. I can.

Bikes: 1969 Raleigh Sports: The Root Beer Bomber

Reminds me of my (for the moment, anyway), DX-5000 from 1989. The obligitory pic of The Bicycle of the Gods. It currently has a Nitto Technomic stem, touring pedals, vintage white ladies' Turbo, and new white tires and tape. Otherwise, stock all the way.

best bike!

I have had a 61cm one of these for about 12 years now. Still everything original except the back rim - some spokes pulled through last year and had to replace. Have always sworn by this bike over many a newer high end bikes. Most comfortable ride ever. The bike has never given any problems and still rides like new!
