Reynolds 531... Delivered?

Being an "old car guy" as well as an "old bike guy", I was reading a few years back John Tipler's "Jensen Interceptor" which included a chapter on the company's history. I had not know they had made trucks way back when as well as more sporting vehicles, and while describing their JNSN Series, they included a picture of a truck made for Reynolds Tube Company to transport tubing; aluminum construction (the truck not the tubes) and rather longer, I guess a whole load of their tubing does not weigh much (we kinda knew that, eh?). Following a few links, yes, same company, and the trucks date to the later 1930's which is when 531 came out according to some of those links.

Offered just for fun. OK, slightly O/T, but I've seen a lot of interaction between interest in bikes and cars. Like my attempt to equip my car with Campagnolo wheels…

Looks like a cross between an English milk float and the Mercedes Benz fast race car transporter from the 50's!

Didn't Campagnolo make / get involved with mag wheels for drag racing back in the '60s? (Since you mention campy wheels on your car!)

Campagnolo made aluminum and maybe magnesium alloy wheels for street and racing exotics like Ferraris and Lamborghinis in the 60's and 70's, but I don't think they made "Drag racing" car wheels.

OK, so drag racing was mostly an American phenomenon, with players like Halibrand Engineering, and Campagnolo was involved in more civilized formula racing on The Continent? Neat.

I think they may still supply wheels for Ferrari road cars. Not sure.

They probably do. When I was racing (around) my TR-3, a buddy had a Fiat Spyder with campy wheels, cool.

Those race car transporters were fine.
I've seen one or two for bikes also.

Yeah, I can see that. Now, I have no idea whether Bike tubing was ever delivered to manufacturers in this truck, as they made other products (tubing for Supermarine Spitfires, etc.) but it's fun to think they did at least to UK cycle makers.

When I decided I wanted wheels for my Sunbeam back in 1994 and wanting something different, I contacted the Campy importer, who (???) could not supply info on offset, etc. So I ordered one wheel, Alfa-Romeo application, to check it out. Bolt circle fine, offset OK, hub center too small and I was too chicken to have that machined out ( :slaphead ) so back it went, despite the cool yellow-silver sandcast finish and the Campagnolo logo on the center "cap". Sigh.

great looking truck. the open bed design looks like some truck you see, mostly around New England, for delivering plumbing pipes and joints. perhaps at one time Reynolds made other types of tubing

I am sure most of you know at one time Bianchi was more famous for motorcycles and racing them. they also built cars (some very beautiful Limos) trucks and even airplane engines.

Bikes: blue ones.

Reynolds tubing was also usen in car construction, for instance, in the suspension sub frame of the E-type (among others) Jag. Same counts for aircraft engine frames and the like.
