Pinarello treviso help

I am currently working on a Pinarello Treviso but I'm a bit confused. I have been researching on the net and everyone says that if the back stays and forks are chromed the it's a Montello. However the Columbus tubing stickers do not say SLX. Secondly it has a White polka dot paint job which I haven't found anywhere else. I was interested in finding out what it is.

Secondly I don't want to mess up the bike with any changes. It currently has original shimano 105 with a strong light crank. I have changed the old turbo seat for a Brooks 'swift' and I have just purchased some campagnolo record C delta breaks. I am currently searching for matching record C mechs. Am I moving in the right direction?

I would also like to insure it, any idea of value? I have the original mavic wheels but do not use them for the summer evening rides.

Any advise greatly appreciated!

I think what you have is a 1986 Pinarello Record. Recently sold mine, it was tutti-frutti (3-color fade) similar to Alex Grewal's olympic bike. Montello also had internal brake routing and special BB shell without a bridge.

Don't know much about the brand's models though, sorry.

Oh, I should have added that yours is most certainly a re-paint, or at least new decals. The originals always faded away.

Bikes: Trek madone, BMC, Pinarello 1984 Treviso

The bike was given to me by my Father inlaw who stopped cycling at the age of 77. He purchased the bike from new as a retirement present so I know he hasn't touched it. It was his pride and joy hense it's in such good condition. Perhaps the bike shop did a paint job? I could certainly find out. Thanks for that.

The whole frame is probably chromed. At least that's how my mid-80s Pinarello Record is. If you've original paint, the exposed chrome areas are a key to the model, however.

Your picture links are to the mobile-oriented flickr action. I'm not sure how to translate them to regular ol' computer flickr action, but that would be helpful for posting pics here.

To me it seems kinda odd that there's only one set of bottle cage braze-ons but internal brake cable routing, but I'm not all that familiar with Pinarellos. Hell I don't even know what year mine was made.

That is true, I did not catch the single bottle cage. I am now thinking early '80's. Could we get a close-up of the bottom bracket area?

Sorry took a while to sort the photos out, thanks so much for you help on this I was begining to find it frustrating not knowing what I was working on!

Any suggestions on group set etc from that era would also be useful as I don't want to mess it up. Have found and purchase some campy delta c record, guess I should stick with campy throughout from the early 80's?

Man, that is one of the most beautiful bikes I've ever seen.

You should really get that hideous Trek outta the shot when you're taking pics

Yes I'll take one this evening. Is there anyway of tracing details from the frame number / code?

He's talking about a little tube welded in between the chainstays. Here's a pic of my Pinarello's chainstay bridge

You've got a chainstay bridge on your bike too. Clearly shown in pic 6 and 7 of post #10

Thanks for that! the fog is begining to clear around the 'mystery of the unamed pinarello'. I see that you are a keen gardener, what are you growing down there? Potatoes? ;-).

Thanks for your help, it really is appreciated.

Hahaha! Usually my bike's clean around this time of year but it just won't stop raining. Fortnightly washes can only do so much.

Would you mind me asking how much you got for it? I would never sell but interesting in terms of insurance. Thanks.

The only answer we give in this forum is $3.99.

Isn't Treviso just the city they're made in?

In the 89 catalog only the Montello and cross bikes have internal cable routing. None show that paint finish, though.

My wild guess is 1990-ish Montello.

https://bulgier.net/pics/bike/Catalogs/pinarello89/2.jpg

Hmm, but they all show 2 sets of bottle mounts.
