1983 Trek ??

Hello,
I joined a while back but this is my first post.
Any help to identify this model or any other info would be greatly apreciated.
I checked vintage Trek but cant seem to find a match in the catalog.

Thanks,

Bikes: Surly Cross Check

All I can tell you is that it isn't a 500, I had one from that year. Yours looks like it is a higher end model then mine.

Bikes: Cannondale T700s and a few others

Well the SN say that should be a 22inch 82 720. Course the 720 was not a complete bike for 82 model. That said I have found errors in their SN database before. LOL
I think you have a 82 728 that got some nice upgrades along the way. The rest of the bike looks correct. Center pull Gran Compe 450 center pulls. Huret Doupar did come on the 728. 83 720 went to Canti.

Bikes: enough bikes to qualify for Hoarders......

Some 728's (at least mine) came with Shimano Deer head components too. Nice score!

Welcome to C&V, dveneman.
FYI, your bike embodies what people love about vintage Trekdom. Wow.

"CL" Trek find

Thank you for all the encouraging comments and great informaiton>\!
I recently aquired this "old bike aquiring" sickness and am wondering if it ever gets better?
A little strory about how I picked up the Trek.
Saw a vague ad with bad photos and low price. The posting was a couple hours old so of course I was worried that I was not the first in line. To better my chances, I asked no questions, gave my tel# and where I lived, explained my love for that type of bike and offered double the low asking price.
It worked and the seller promised to hold it for me even though I was out of town for a week. Several others contacted the seller offering more that I did but the gentleman held to his word.
The seller (retired from medical occupation) found the bike in a Bay Area parking lot in the 80s and turned it ove to the police. It was eventually returned to him after the true owner was never found.
I kind of like the unrestored look and have held back the cleaner/ polish so far. But I want to ride it so I will eventually do a cleaning/overhaul.
Thank you again. You are great people. Sick, but great!

Bikes: Bikes??? Thought this was social media?!?

The sickness only gets N+1 worse.
Some cases are more troubling than others, especially if you develop the "polishing" (or other) syndromes.

Nice bike! I love old Treks. The chainwheels on that thing have a look all of their own. Ride that thang!

That's a model 720, 1st year of production, but not the first run. All 531 tubing. The very first run used Cinelli bottom bracket shells (some marked Cinelli, others TREK). Later runs used the Signicast shell your frame has. After the 1st year, the 720 used cantilever brakes.

Is that cable housing actually an olive green? Or, is that just the result of aging? Geez....that thing is gorgeous. TREK!

Housing faded as I, not as clear and bright as before.
