Fork Removal

Just thinking about this. Is it possible to remove the fork from a vintage Raleigh Tourist without removing the handlebar stem and, if course, disassembling the front and rear rod brakes?

Not as far as I know - all the Tourists I've seen have quill stems that go into the steerer tube (a hollow tube which is part of the fork). To get the fork out, you'll need to unscrew the bolt atop the stem, than give it a tap to free the expander nut within. Fear not! The rods should be easily separable about midway down, in front of the Raleigh logo. Loosen the nuts and slide the handlebar up. Once you've removed the headset, you can remove the fork. Raleighs aren't my usual fare, so there could be models I don't know about. Pics?

No. The stem will have to be removed and you can just take the brake rod links apart. Not really all that difficult to do.

^ Yes, you just have to undo the linkage where it meets in front of the head tube. That's easy.

See the two little screws on the rods that go to the handlebar(near the headbadge). Just undo both of those and the top rods will slide right out. I do not recommend taking anything else apart if you don't need to.
