Anton, wish I'd done that first - it would've saved me a lot of hassle! The adaptation seems to be working though and I'll take her out to see how stable the bag is... well, you know ... I will do that once the temperatures drop out of the 100's...! For the moment, she's just lookin' nice standing around in the air conditioning of the studio.

You should cross your brake cable housings over the stem; IMO will result in better angles, for both front and rear.

Great suggestion. I'll give that a shot before I snug up the brakes this morning. (It's funny how you can get so focused on one detail and overlook something else.)

And that electrical tape is temporary, right, Mark?

Yup. Bar wrap is the very, very final piece of the puzzle. (I want to make sure I don't have to unwrap it for any reason.) I've got some nice twine to finish off the ends with, and then hit the twine with a couple of coats of shellac. I found a couple of SIG bottles, BTW, that come damn close to matching the powder blue of the frame. It was too much, though, to have more of just that blue as it turned out, so I originally got the twine for a partial wrap of the bottles. I left about an inch and a half of blue showing at the bottom, then gave it about four inches of tightly wrapped twine - ostensibly as a combination grip/damper - but you and I know it's really because it looks cool! I hit the twine with the shellac to bond it in place and it gives me a really nice match to the honey color of the saddle. So the overall color combination is powder blue/rich browns/shiny stuff. I still need to photograph the bottles and post them; I'm pretty happy with how they turned out.

But, as usual, I digress: yes, the tape is temporary.

I knew it was, but I enjoy your digressions. I have a gorgeous money pit of a bike that currently has dingy cloth tape finished with electrical tape. I've been riding it for a few weeks like that. I'm tweaking the fit and have decided to change the stem and that means new cables and housing and blah blah blah. Everyone I've ridden with says, "That bike is awesome, dude. But, I'm not crazy about the bar tape."

"It's temporary", I reply.

I rode it the whole length of the KATY Trail and back in early June with the electrical tape on it and for several hundred miles it really bugged me how shiny the tape was compared to the matte finish of the wrap. (Some of my students think I have OCD!) Despite what I saw as a glaring aesthetic problem, the only comments I got along the way was almost always "Nice saddle!"
