Why ATM or PIN? Automated Teller and Personal Identification right?

What's up Dan, haven't seen you in a while. Glad to see you.

Great pictures of everyone spending time with their kids. I can't wait until we can get outdoors too (without freezing).

An ATM machine is an Automated Teller Machine machine.
A PIN number is a Personal Identification Number number.
A UPC code is a Universal Product Code code.

And a Hot Water Heater heats up hot water.
And a two-wheel bike is a bike with two wheels.

I'm pretty sure they heat up cold water to make it hot. Sure, some have a recirculation feature that allows the water to be heated up faster, but the water coming into the heater initially is cold.

Yes, I know that.... but I wanted to know why Tom dislikes the abbreviations for them so much?

Because of the redundancy of the last word in the abbreviation.

For what it's worth, the use of "hot water heater" might be regional. I've always just said "water heater" as I guess that's how I've always heard it.

Oops, I totally missed that. I need to start reading more carefully.

The MAC thing is probably regional too. I grew up in Northeastern Pennsylvania and every other place that I've lived the usage of this acronym (money access center) has gotten me some pretty dumb stares.

I drive past this place occasionally and am curious, but the angle that the building takes with a plumb bob scares the bejesus out of me!

Always called it a hot water heater in Central Illinois. Except when the neighbors' hot water heater exploded. Called that one Saturn 5.

I still say I am going to tap MAC, and those commercials have been gone for a long time.

Howdy! Yes, doing pretty well. I got wrapped up in my last job to the point of loosing my health, fitness and some of my sanity. But, I no longer work there, so I'm feeling better. I'm looking forward to jumping back on the bike. But I only have a short time in the area. Me and the family are moving to California as soon as the house sells. Holiday76 needs some company out there.

Justin do you prefer soda or a bottle of pop with your water heater?

Neither. It's common in Kentucky and many other areas further south to simply hear "Coke" or "Pepsi" as a catch-all for any flavored, carbonated drink. It's like "Who's On First".

"Would you like a Pepsi?"
"Yes, thanks."
"What would you like?"
"Um. . . "

Personally, I think I may have grown out of that habit. I think if I refer to a drink like that these days it's pretty specific.

Put a 26" mnt bike wheel on my old Schwinn Super Sport SS, my front wheel was busted. This one works just fine, except no front brake.
