I think it's time to provide an alternate view of winter!

When I see all that snow and ice it just makes me depressed; how about a little southern hemisphere sunshine?

Yes, thank you.

It's a bright, sunshiny day here in St. Paul.

.......and -12 degrees.

A big warmup is on its way for Friday though.

The low 30s, which will seem like we won the lottery.

Can't wait to ride this weekend. :)

No... my daughter bought Pearl (the Conure) and I have been working with her at the shop since she was a fledgling so she adores me just as much as she does my daughter.

My daughter saved for quite some time as Pineapple Conures tend to command a premium.

Since my wife also comes to the pet store Pearl knows her as well and they had coffee and scritches this morning... Conures tend to be some of the gentlest and most affectionate of all the parrots.

Pearl is one very happy little bird today... she has a new home that is full of her favourite people. There are a lot of rescue organizations that re-home parrots that need good homes... in many cases they outlive their owners.

Some people have big screen televisions... we have bird vision.

The bad luck continues. Truing up this wheel, which went out of true quite suddenly, and found this:

Otherwise in new condition, without even brake tracks.

Ouch! Sorry for your bad luck on a nice classic rim. These were claimed to be very light (370gm), and probably a bit thin. I had a new pair I built with Superbe Pro rims and 15GA spokes. I noticed some very faint crazing of the anodized surface once I finished truing. They are delicate rims. I never got to ride my pair. If I retrieve them, I may need to lessen the tension, if they aren't already toast.

an older (than me) guy that usually rides a low end mtb into work came in with this today:

thought I would share it since it looks pretty C&V, but I dont know much about schwins. he was rather proud of his geared conversion. sorry about the blurry pics, I was snapping pics in a hurry as my co worker was trying to get out the door...

WNG 01-13-14 04:28 PM

^Ouch!

Too bad, someone should trade him a more appropriate newer bike just to save those components. The Madison track frame is a loss when he drilled the lugs/tubes!

cobrabyte 01-13-14 05:35 PM

That Schwinn is freaking awesome.

Colonel, bang up job man! Home-made Tamales are a favorite of mine.

A friend of mine and I went on a ride to check out a newly finished bike path on the other side of town. Some jerk decided to throw hundreds of tacks and brad nails along the trail and ruin a bunch of peoples day. After 5 flats between the two of us we ran out of patches and had to walk over 4 miles back to the car. At least it was a beautiful day out. :thumb:

flat 1

about 100 yards down the path flat #2 , this is when something started to smell fishy
http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2890/1...6effcba5_b.jpg
3 miles later our suspicions were confirmed when my friend suffered both front and rear flats simultaneously. At this point we were just hoping to make it back to the car so he fixed both tires.

after snapping this photo of my bike, I noticed the back tire was flat...again, and we were out of tubes so time to walk.
