Cobrabyte- that really boils my blood. The people that often do these types of random destruction/ violence truly have to be the scum of the planet. Just "pranking" people for fun, reminds me of kids that throw rocks off freeway overpasses. I try not to ever wish ill fate to people since you never know what someones life has driven them to. But acts like this definitely get me to think some pretty nasty things. i know flat tires are generally not a big deal, but the essence of this act (IMHO) is one of the major things wrong with society today.

I hear ya man. I got more upset for the folks that were trying to commute to work, they've got to explain it to the boss and it makes commuting to work seem illegitimate to folks that already feel it is. At least I was just out recreationally riding so it was a minor inconvenience, but think about parents with kids in a child seat and things could get ugly quick. Really sad that the person(s) involved will never get caught.

Man, this is a heinous act by a callous sociopath. In agreement with RALEIGH_COMP's beliefs, may these people be brought to justice. I've gotten first hand experience of such despicable people, and discovered how traumatic events in their past are the cause. BUT I can't condone or excuse their behavior and premeditated victimization of others.

I hope the police investigate. Spreading hundreds of tacks and brads means someone recently made a big purchase for this purpose. A plea for vendors to report any such purchases may narrow down who did this. If someone had wrecked from flats and gotten badly hurt, then this wouldn't be a lightly taken crime.
I wonder if they can run a Bobcat with an electromagnet to pick up the tacks and nails? Or at least a narrow road sweeper on the path to try to do the same.

The news article said the bridge was recently opened up to bicycles, whereas it had previously been a pedestrian-only bridge. I'll bet the culprit is a regular walker on the bridge who feels resentment about new bike traffic--perhaps someone who already has a history of berating cyclists there.

Simply wonderful creativity! This is a nice yin/yang balance to Cobrabyte's story of destructiveness.

We have somewhat the same issue with the American Tobacco Trail. It's 99% complete (waiting on bridge over an interstate to recover from design issues). However, on the Durham end, where it's really nice, it immediately goes into an area favored by armed robbers and muggers. So far, not many cyclists have been robbed, but pedestrians aplenty. As soon as you get something nice....

Like smart dogs, smart birds can be trouble!

We used to have a scarlet macaw whose temperament was, at best, capricious. When let out of her cage, the cats would run and hide, at least until she had waddled into the kitchen, shaken the cats' food dish, and said "Here, kitty!" in a perfect imitation of my wife's voice. The cats would run into the kitchen expecting treats, only to find MURDER. The bird was smart, no doubt about it.

My Grey would walk across the floor whispering "here kitty kitty kitty" and if he found them snoozing under a chair he would sneak up to them and do his best imitation of a rabid Doberman which would send the cats flying.

Then he would walk back his cage laughing the whole way... he would also call the dogs in from outside by name and they never figured out it wasn't me calling.

He would also mimic me and say "Honey I'm Home!" when I was at work which would bring people looking for me... he also thought this was hilarious.

Most stunning was when I would offer him different treats and he would ask for them by name... one day I asked if he wanted and apple, carrot, or banana chip and he replied, "All of them".

My male Ringneck calls my oldest daughter by her name but I figured out that it is because he wants attention from my youngest daughter who of course, calls her sister by name.

When he wants raisins he says "Hey boy, come here".

Everyone he likes is a "pretty girl"... this is usually followed by a loud kiss.

Imagine 5 year olds with wings.

Those bird stories are amazingly hilarious.

If my ex wife went in the kitchen he would copy the smoke detector... she was the only person he did this for. He did not like her much and would also copy the sound of a dripping tap so she would have to come and check it.

You have to be careful what you teach them and with Greys they learn a lot on their own through observation... only Budgies have been known to have larger vocabularies and the ability to understand context and syntax is something African Greys excel at.

One issue is that, because they are so intelligent and emotional they experience grief and stress like we do and can die along with their owners... for that reason they should be well socialized and have a big family to love them.

My daughter just got home and Pearl the Conure has lost her mind and think she is trying to call her by name... she has a tiny voice so you have to listen carefully.
