Well I was just turning 7 at the time of photo and the bike was my chistmas present possibly christmas day or day after. If you look a the ad Raleigh were targeting 7 to 11 year old's so it shows my parents put some thought into it. I think it was adjusted some and my parents would have thought I would grow into it. But dam that seat hurt!

I finally got around to putting some fenders on this bike. It turned out to be a pain in the ass. I bought the fenders used, and the had to cob together some mounting parts. On top of that, there's no bridge on the chainstay to mount anything to. Anyhow, the project is finished, and I need to go out and check for rattles and rubs..

The important thing to note is that it's a town that's about 50% college students. It seems to be very socially segregated in terms of academics, students, couples, families with children and such. There are those lines, and people almost never cross them. My, erhm, romantic life will be tough as a single 31 year old guy in a town of married women, middle aged mothers and students.

The whole thing is a little bit socially isolating, which I'm hoping will get better once I really start learning the language.

Wait, Swedish women, single, 31? I hope you are not complaining, because you are living the dream. At least from this married 18 years, 51 year old see it. Want to trade?:(

It's certainly not a bad place to be. Probably San Jose was actually worse in those terms, due to the general lack of young women, and those who preyed on my incorrectly perceived wealth. But at least I spoke the language and could have other forms of socialization available. Here even talking to a person on the bus is really frowned upon. You'll notice that you even reserve the laundry room so that you can't possibly interact with another person, which was previously one of my favorite ways to meet women.

Finally, though, I'm in a place where being a guy who likes to ride old bicycles is more-or-less the cultural norm!

I've been meaning to replace the bar tape on my fixed gear bike. It was long overdue for a refresh - areas were rotting away and patched up some friction tape as I kept on riding putting off the inventible chore.


I finally got around to it while I was out sick this past week and needing something to do.
I didn't bother removing all of the old tape - just the ratty sections that were in strands at the ends of the bars. I wrapped it first with white tape but didn't like the result then I overwrapped the white with pink. After shellacking here are the results

I have been a concrete worker's helper the past couple weeks, in Chicxulub Puerto, about 50km away. Stayed over at the beach house, rather than commute. As I was awaiting my pizza Thurs. evening, I realized I was sitting right in front of this marker. It represents the spot where scientists believe the comet landed, wiping out every living thing bigger than a chicken, 65 million years ago.

Unfortunately I don't get to commute on my bike anymore, my job requires a truckload of tools and travelling around all day, so my 'everyday' riding is weekends with my wife and daughter.
