Hunh...I would not have considered a kiddy pool to soak parts in. I have a bike I need to de-rust, and I wasn't sure how best to do it. I don't think my wife would let me use the bathtub.

^Less than $10 at Walmart. This one is only for bike parts/frames, btw. I bought a second pool for my daughter. Can deflate for storage & re-use later.

So tell us (which is to say, me) again, what concentration and for how long should one soak steel or aluminum?

Oh, I'm not very precise. I use about a tablespoon per gallon and leave it in there a day or two depending on how bad the rust is. This pool used most of a pint-sized container. I often keep a separate, smaller solution on the workbench for nuts, bolts, and other small bits.

Don't soak aluminum in oxalic acid.

Don't soak aluminum is oxalic acid.
Thanks. I didn't think you were supposed to soak aluminimumium in OA but I wondered about those rims in the pool. Then I looked closely enough to see they were steel.

I have some soaking to do in the next month or so, if I get that shipment of round tuits I ordered last year.

Wonderful thread.

This was from a nightride several nights ago.

This old girl was my mom's, and sat unused for many many years. She needs fixing on the coaster brake but I will make a neighborhood cruiser out of her.

Getting her out of the basement. Poor old girl.

Tough loading into my vehicle

current ride. I raised the seat about 3 inches from this.

Fiorelli built Coppi. Not sure what year or model. Z50 tubing, whatever that is. Will be my first vintage resto project, to learn on. Wish me luck.

I left work late tonight and got treated to a massive 1 mile high, 20 mile wide, 45mph dust storm hitting Phoenix. The wall of dust moved on top of the highway pretty quickly.
