Cold Blooded...

You meet the strangest creatures on a Minnesota bikepath. Let's review the conditions: November, 43°F, cloudy. What on Earth is this fellow doing smack in the middle of the...

...er, Multiple Use Path (MUP)? Ah, now I get it. Anybody can use these things, right?

But still, I asked him, "Hey, aren't you supposed to be dormant right now?" He just stared at me, but a voice in my head said "Look it up!"

So I did: "
Well, it turns out that frogs and toads, particularly in the Northeast and other colder climates, spend their winters quietly tucked away while they hibernate in the mud at the bottom of lakes, carefully concealed in logs and tucked under leaf litter. Some toads even bury themselves to hibernate."

The lake was only twenty feet away...

"Hey buddy, a little help?"

Well, it's a MUP, not a road, so he wasn't in any danger from cars. And I was the only person out on a bike there yesterday. This trail runs along a levee, and the area between him and the lake is a very steep slope comprised of large, jagged boulders, so I wasn't about to risk a busted ankle carrying him down there, and I didn't want to just throw him...

You see my dilemma. He had just come from the swamp side of the path, so I figured he didn't want to go back there. So I decided to heed the Star Trek Prime Directive of non-interference...

Does that make me a Bad Person?

Looking back, it's been about ten years since I've had the full drum kit together. It was a jazz/bebop setup in the interim. Lots more to do, but this is the starting point.

I was out for a ride yesterday.....very rural area, no houses. I am speeding along; there walking down the street was a chicken. No houses for a mile or so in any direction. Just a chicken; no, she was not crossing the road; just walking like she had some where to be. Unfortunately no photo.

who is the genius who started this thread? It's awesome.

Anyhow, I recently joined a local softball team of old dudes. We play Sunday mornings. Some of the people need pinch runners because they can't make it around the bases without having a blowout.

Anyway, it was the perfect occasion to break out my classic and vintage original baseball glove, one of only two i've ever owned (i still have the other one as well)..

I'd put it at about 32 years old.

There are more drillium holes than aluminum in that Hill Cycle large chainring!!! The rear derailleur is much thinner too.

Love this thread too - no bike riding today (and probably tomorrow). My daughter is playing for the first time in a soccer tournament called Yak Attack. She's always had softball tournaments this weekend and couldn't participate. Unique format of 12 minute halves, 5 on 5 for players and free subs during play. So, I spent the day being photographer.

Love watching her play:

Her friends on the team are pretty cool too:
