I passed by this beautiful example of a Swiss Military Bike at the coffee shop this morning. I used to own one of these. I chatted up the owner and it was a "barn find" that sat untouched for 35 years.

Bertin with produce. This farm stand is a few hundred yards off of the American River Bike Trail. Organic, nonprofit, education based...good coffee, pastries, and the last of the heirloom tomatoes (safely in the panniers of course). Nice morning indeed.

Finally got to put together the Cinelli 1A stem Otis milled for me ages ago after getting a donor stem for the hardware. I swapped out the Alpina's 1R for this beauty and just got it all put together this morning:



The bike itself looks better, IMHO, with a silver stem rather than the black 1R.

Beautiful day today, visiting my old stomping grounds in Orange County, CA.

Went to Crystal Cove State Park for a mountain bike ride, had super good Mexican food at La Sirena in Laguna Beach and then went to chase down an Eisentraut that came up on CL.

Got all three bikes inside the Prius!

As you can see this one will be a project.....

I spent the last 3 days cleaning and reorganizing my shop and finally after 4 1/2 years I got my big air compressor back on line and working great, next is my sand/Glass Bead blasting cabinet I bought last year.

That's great Glenn! I finally got my mig welder back after lending it to someone for the two last years. I really don't have anything to weld at the moment though.

Yeah I can now use all of my air tools again without fear of running out of air, lots of volume. I have a little mig and hopefully by next week I will have a little DC stick welder that a friend is given me here so I can use it for bigger projects like a steel bench for outside. I have everything here to get my blast cabinet going but I need to cut and thread the 1/2" pipe I am going to use for my air line which is going to be a PITA to run. I have a bunch of frames waiting to be blasted and painted once I am finished.

I worked in Sac. Town for a few months back in 2007. I've spent much of my career working on the road. I gotta say; Sacramento holds some of the fondest memories for me on the road.
I just love the bike trails along the river. My intro. to yoga was there as well.

Busy weekend: 24 hrs of Moab mountain bike endurance race, with thousands of riders showing up. Our team of 5 kept a guy constantly on the 14 mile trail throughout a blustery afternoon followed by a frosty moonlit night and finishing with a crisp cool morning.

It was a great event, professionally run by GrannyGear and attracting all kinds of folks from a one legged middle age guy to single speed power houses doing it solo: 24hrs - one gear!!

The ever cautious moms, who unfortunately were present at our basecamp, didn't want the kids out there at night so to keep us on the loop I did three back to back laps from midnight to five am. Kinda fun, actually. Modern bicycle lamps are pretty amazing.

On Saturday my girlfriend and I had a leisure ride down to the lakepark, where Octoberfest was if full-swing. We took two of my bikes, I rode my '76 Moto Grand Jubile and my girlfriend took the '91/'92 Bridgestone MB-1 Grocery/Beater.

On the way, we stopped for lunch at America's Tacos, a great traditional street-taco style eatery -



We spent the afternoon in basking in the sun, and stopped for coffee on our way back to my house -




Fast forward to yesterday, at around 9 o'clock at night, when I jumped on the Bridgestone Grocery bike for a quick trip to the supermarket. I heard a terrible **POP!** and turned around to see this -





That's the ultimate chain wear indicator: having it break mid-pedal stroke. I knew I needed to replace the chain, but was riding it until it gave out. Unfortunately, when it went out I didn't have a chain tool handy. Luckily I was only about 1/4 mile from home, I just lowered the seat and pushed the bike with my feet, like a scooter. Avoidable, embarrassing, and humorous, but it could have been a lot worse.

Going to the shop today to pick up a new chain.

Did 22 miles w/ the kids today. I think I might need to qualify for a commercial drivers license to operate this.....

Thanks! I do have the luxury of a rail-to-trail bike path that runs about 25 miles in each direction from our starting point, so it makes it very easy. As for the tandem & Piccolo, both were CL purchases. The tandem was delivered to me for $150. It is a bit on the small side(fit-wise) as is evident by the stem riser. I was having trouble with original flat handle bars making my hands numb but -holiday76 suggested some trekking bars and they have made it much more comfortable.

The kids really like it and it gets a lot of positive reactions, particularly from other kids/teens, so I think that makes them like it even more!
