I think very few, if any, people expect a bottom bracket to be included with "crankset". That usage has pretty much gone by the wayside. When I happen to include the matching bb in a sale, I will sell it as xyz crankset includes bb or words to that effect.

All's well that ends well.

I picked up a NOS Campy Record 50T 144 BCD pista chainring and five Campy NOS bolts, so I'm good to go when the frameset gets here from Waterford.

A 50t will be more useable, I think.

Yep; I would have preferred a 48, but a 50 will work with the right cog.

Semantics aside, Campy sure did make some beautiful machinery. Five pound carbon fiber bikes are all well and good, but I can't help but feel as though we've lost something.

Agreed. My original comment on the original 52t was directed at the size, not the velodrome.

I don't think crankset should necessarily include the BB, but that is once again becoming popular, which is a good thing.
Well, in the case of the one piece crankset, the crank arms are integrated with the axle. And that is why I would also include any bearing cups and bearings with it as well. To get a crank gear and one piece arm system is pointless without having the bearings and cups that would assemble those parts into the bottom bracket that is permanently part of the frame. And that's where I think the delineation between a 1 piece vs 3 piece crank system by description includes the bottom bracket.
